After-Holiday Thrifting

Around the holidays is the perfect time to hit up all your favorite thrift stores. People are organizing and cleaning out their home, so there are lots of great finds out there!

It can be intimidating to sort through all the junk in thrift stores, so I thought I’d show you the types of things I always look for. A few weeks ago, I took a stroll around a Goodwill near my in-laws house in Mesa, AZ and here’s what caught my eye!

  • Umbrella Stand 1 of 17
    Umbrella Stand
Remember when I did an umbrella stand round up? This adorable blue and white version would have totally made the cut!
  • Dress 2 of 17
    Dress
Saw this pretty little Mexican embroidered shirt dress hanging out near the housewares. It will be perfect for Claire after a good dry cleaning. Adorable!
  • Cobalt Vase 3 of 17
    Cobalt Vase
I love the cobalt blue color of this vase! So pretty sitting on a bookshelf empty or filled with a bunch of hot pink peonies.
  • Wire Basket 4 of 17
    Wire Basket
I found this stack of wire baskets in the perfect shade of Hermes orange to corral all my paint decks and decorative trims.
  • Vase 5 of 17
    Vase
I'm super into purples lately (I never thought I'd say that!), and I'm crazy over this shade of eggplant. So pretty with pink or red flowers. Even some big white lillies...
  • Candlesticks 6 of 17
    Candlesticks
I totally scored with these ebonized wood candlesticks. I love the primitive turned detail. They were only $1.50!
  • Fabric 7 of 17
    Fabric
I scored several yards of this really pretty, unique plaid for just a couple dollars. I have a chair upholstery project in mind!
  • Bicycle 8 of 17
    Bicycle
I totally wanted to buy this vintage bike and give it an overhaul. It was adorable.
  • Coffee Table 9 of 17
    Coffee Table
This coffee table might not look like much, but it really has potential. A coat of chalky black or cream paint and a sheet of antiqued glass would be gorgeous here. Especially when paired with some modern elements in the rest of the room.
  • Side Table 10 of 17
    Side Table
I love this little woven side table! So cute layered in front of a bigger side table.
  • Side Chairs 11 of 17
    Side Chairs
I loved this pair of antique side chairs. They'd be great overhauled and put in an entry flanking a great console table!
  • Dining Chairs 12 of 17
    Dining Chairs
I also liked the chairs in this dining set. I would use the table elsewhere (or sell in on Craigslist) and pair the (painted and reupholstered) chairs with a parsons table.
  • Cocktail Table 13 of 17
    Cocktail Table
Another great cocktail table - this time a pair! Perfect for smaller homes and apartments.
  • Game Table 14 of 17
    Game Table
Domino featured a beautiful Robsjohn-Gibbings for Widdicomb table a few years ago that has never left my mind. It was an 8-sided octogon with arched leg holes. I thought this table (actually a game table) could be an interesting base piece for a DIY?
  • Lamps 15 of 17
    Lamps
Here were a few of my favorite lamps at the store. A pair of beautiful minty green porcelain lamps and a lovely aubergine ginger jar lamp just needed some fabulous shades.
  • Lucite Tables 16 of 17
    Lucite Tables
Oh, be still my heart! Smoky lucite coffee and side tables with little brass detailing? Awesome.
  • Candelabras 17 of 17
    Candelabras
I loved the shaped of these silver plate candelabras. And you know how I love things in pairs!
