Ah yes, cleaning the house. Somehow or another, it has to get done. But how it’s done, well that seems to be the trick, doesn’t it?
After the jump we’re talking about cleaning strategies. Ooh, exciting!
You’ve heard it said there are a million ways to skin a cat, but each way is going to leave a horrible mess that you’re going to have to clean up, am I right? So how do go about it?
Here are a few of the House Cleaning Religions I’ve come up against in my near-decade of homemakerness:
THE CLEANING DAY METHOD 1 of 7Particularly effective if your place is 1000 square feet or smaller, the cleaning day is the predetermined one day a week where you stay in your pajamas and take down each room, one at a time.
THE ZONE CLEANING METHOD 2 of 7This is where each day of the week comes with a different cleaning zone. For example, Monday is Bathrooms, Tuesday is Kitchen, etc. This is especially good if your house is larger, and/or you love cleaning so much you want to involve bleach in your daily life.
THE ‘HOW LONG HAS IT BEEN?!’ METHOD 3 of 7I have been a proud cleaner of things only when they actually scream at me for cleaning since we moved to New York City. Mostly because there is just one of everything (one bathroom, one bedroom) so it's easy to be an "on demand" cleaner.
THE STOP WATCH METHOD 4 of 7"You have only one life, and that life is meant to be lived!" shouts the stop watch cleaner. A stop watch cleaner acknowledges that there is stuff to be cleaned but will only spare a set amount of time a day for it, and afterwards, she moves on to greener (funner) pastures.
THE TIDY UP THE NURSERY METHOD 5 of 7A Tidier will keep a very neat looking home, but you may not want to look too closely. Unless, of course, that Tidier is also using . . .
THE DEEP CLEAN METHOD 6 of 7Conversely, the deep cleaner's house may be a cluttered mess, but the bathroom fixtures gleam so brightly you can see the meaning of life in them.
THE ‘I HAVE SOMEONE’ METHOD 7 of 7Maybe that someone is your husband, or maybe more likely that someone is a person who is paid to keep things under control for you. Either way, I'm all for the cleaning lady system. It speaks to me. And it is most certainly not cheating (when you have a cleaning lady, you have that much more time to fine tune your perfect pot roast recipe, am I right?
All tongue-in-cheekiness aside, there are probably a million more ways to keep your house clean. So how about you? How do you prefer to keep your cleaning in check? Got a fool proof system? I’m dying to hear.
