Favorite Design Books

I love blogs for their wealth of design inspiration, but sometimes I just need to curl up on the couch with a book and study the pages. If you need a last-minute gift idea for a design junkie or just want to beef up your own library, these are my absolute favorite design books!

  • Fashion Designers at Home 1 of 25
    Fashion Designers at Home
This book is downright amazing. Just like many famous interior designers have a great flair for fashion, these fashion designers have stunning homes. Every time I look at this book, I find myself studying every detail, with my face only a few inches away from the page. It's that good.

  • To Your Taste 2 of 25
    To Your Taste
Celerie Kemble is one of my favorite interior designers. I love, LOVE how her style is traditional with a modern twist. This book is great for all the inspirational images, but it is also JAM-PACKED with really great design advice. A must-have book.
Purchase To Your Taste on Amazon
  • Tony Duquette 3 of 25
    Tony Duquette
Tony Duquette is the master of the 'More is more' philosophy. This mammoth design tome is full of interiors and pop culture history. Super interesting and a must-have for serious design enthusiasts.

  • Prince of Decorators 4 of 25
    Prince of Decorators
John Fowler changed the world of interiors almost a century ago. He burst through the heavy decor left over from the Victorian age, and first made the English country house style widely en vogue. He even helped to redecorate Buckingham palace. Fowler was a true design innovator, whose influence we are still benefitting from today.

  • The World of Madeleine Castaing 14 of 25
    The World of Madeleine Castaing
This book is an absolute treasure. Madeleine Castaing is the Grande Dame of French decoration — she was eccentric and a little bit crazy — in the very best way. You'll love this book as much as I do.
Purchase The World of Madeleine Castaing on Amazon
  • Mary McDonald Interiors 15 of 25
    Mary McDonald Interiors
Mary McDonald is soooo good at Regency Glam, but with a masculine twist. Her look is not overly girlie, which I think makes her work more timeless.

    Home Rules
I picked up this Nate Berkus book at Ross or Marshalls for about $4 a couple years ago and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed reading it. Nate seems like a really nice guy and I love a lot of his designs. This is a good one to add to the library.

    Regency Redux
Regency Redux is a great book that not only shows beautiful rooms, but breaks down the long history of the Regency design style. This is a great book even if you're not necessarily a huge fan of Hollywood Regency. The spaces have more of a classic twist than you might anticipate.
    Purchase Regency Redux on Amazon
  • Happy Chic Colors 22 of 25
