The Top 50 Etsy Parents, 2012

As parents, putting family first can make us feel like our own interests and hobbies are pushed to the backburner. However, sometimes you meet a mom or dad who carves out time to pursue their passions — and make a living from it, to boot. While compiling this list, we’ve had the chance to hear from incredible parents around the globe. What they all have in common is a love for beautiful things — and the savvy to share it with others on Etsy.

The shops on this year’s list are as diverse as the sellers behind them. From couture kids clothes to vintage home goods, each object showcased here is a representation of the creative stories behind them. Warning: this is online shopping, taken up a notch. Prepare to become addicted! (And if you think we missed a shop, nominate it in the comments!) — Amy Levin Epstein

The Top 50 Etsy Parents, 2012

Owner: Erin Freuchtel (with husband Nick), mom to Stella, 7, and Elliot, 4, living in Greenwood, Indiana

Blog: http://imaginationkidstoys.com/blog/

Shop here for: Wooden toys, from bunny rabbit families to wheeled turtles

Signature Item: Hedgehog Push Toy, $15

In the past four years, Erin Freuchtel and her husband Nick have had their hands full — not only with taking care of two kids under four, but with their growing business of simple, gorgeous wooden children’s toys. “In the last four years, our four hands have made over 500 large rainbows and almost 400 large push hedgehogs!” explains Erin. That hard work paid off: Today, the shop sees many customers come back time and time again, and the couple credits Etsy’s model of “attainable entrepreneurship” for getting their business off the ground.

This crafty husband-and-wife team, whose work has been featured in Pregnancy and Newborn and Parents magazines, is going to give Santa a run for his money this holiday season with their stocking stuffer gift sets. If your dream this December is for children’s gifts that harken back to a time before apps and AA batteries, consider your holiday wishes granted!
