The Top 50 Etsy Parents, 2012

As parents, putting family first can make us feel like our own interests and hobbies are pushed to the backburner. However, sometimes you meet a mom or dad who carves out time to pursue their passions — and make a living from it, to boot. While compiling this list, we’ve had the chance to hear from incredible parents around the globe. What they all have in common is a love for beautiful things — and the savvy to share it with others on Etsy.

The shops on this year’s list are as diverse as the sellers behind them. From couture kids clothes to vintage home goods, each object showcased here is a representation of the creative stories behind them. Warning: this is online shopping, taken up a notch. Prepare to become addicted! (And if you think we missed a shop, nominate it in the comments!) — Amy Levin Epstein

The Top 50 Etsy Parents, 2012

Owner: Jordan Provost (with husband Jason Wong), mom to Callum, 15 months, living in Brooklyn

Shop here for: Custom-made tea towels and wooden home decorations

Signature Item: Whales Tea Towel, $25

What can a photographer/letterpress printer and a graphic designer create when they work together? For one, a bouncy baby boy, and also Enormous Champion — an Etsy shop full of clean, classic designs that supports their little family. The shop works with wholesale clients and creates custom-made tea towels and home décor per the customer’s request.

But despite Enormous Champion’s gorgeous offerings, Jordan knows they can’t mend broken hearts: “We once had a customer who bought a boxed set of cards for his ex-girlfriend,” she says. “He had us send them directly to her with a personalized note. She flat out refused the package, and it was returned to us.” If she had just opened the package: “It was his last-ditch effort to win her back!”

With mentions in Martha Stewart Living, New York, Costal Living, Brides, Real Simple and The Knot magazines, this small shop is definitely getting some big attention.
