Macrame Is Coming Back

By craftyamy |

Okay everyone, I called this a long time ago – three years to be precise – macrame is on its way back into the world of crafting.  I spotted these hanging succulent garden holders on Skinny Laminx and thought, “I can do that.”  Not only can I do that, but I like the way it looks.  Especially for an apartment dweller like myself who doesn’t have a lot of space on the ground or on shelves.  Now I’m poking around to see what kind of fibers I have to knot.  Would you ever try macrame?

I love macrame! My mom was queen of macrame when I was growing up – we had literally hundreds of things that she made. She still has most of them hanging in her house now. That’s where my creative inner self came from!

Yes, I’ve always wanted to learn!

Yes, I would totally do this! I macrame’d as a teenager (30 plus years ago) and STILL have the projects I made. They last!! I used jute and/or a cotton cording. I am teaching my teenage son to macrame…it’s a craft a guy can do, since it involves tying knots (like every good Cub Scout/Boy Scout learns) and so he doesn’t feel like it is too girly.

Don’t get me wrong, i love modpoge, but its great hearing your other crafty stuff!

Now, I just need to learn to macrame and I must find a file cabinet to “re~do”!!
