Have you ever visited ABCHome.com? It is one of the largest collections of interior design and decorating ideas on the internet, incorporating carpets/rugs, furniture, bed/bath, lighting and even gifts. I actually had not heard of the site until just recently, and I spent hours poking around and dreaming of what my space could look like. The best part? It’s not just a site, it’s a store. So you can buy what you see.
I love that.
To make things even more intriguing and designerly wonderful, ABC Home has a new site called ABC Reveal. Click through to learn more about it.
What fascinates me about ABC Reveal is that it tells the stories behind the products on ABC Home. ABC Home is committed to a strong mission of cruelty-free products that support social and environmental transformation. In regular person terms, that means that sales from a lot of the products support people who are going through difficult times. For instance, I was drawn to the beaded dolls that make up the Monkeybiz Collection featured on the site.
It turns out these dolls are hand-beaded by a community of women in South Africa — and many of these South African artists are facing a positive HIV diagnosis. This is in addition to the poverty they experience on a daily basis. Making and selling these dolls allows them to feed their families while working out of their own homes … and they get to express themselves artistically in the process. It’s a simple, basic dream that a lot of us have, and it’s not a lot to ask for.
