Fun Weekend Idea: Make Summer Fun Jars

By Cyd Converse |

With the holiday week nipping at our heels and a long summer of fun on deck, here’s a great idea for a little weekend entertainment from Mer Mag. Summer fun jars! Get the kiddos and the whole family in on the action creating a stockpile of ideas for the summer. Grab three large jars and have each member of the family contribute ideas for outings to go on, foods to make and activities to do at home over the course of the summer. Then just reach in each week, grab out an idea for each day and block out your calendar with lots of fun things to do!

Mer at Mer Mag used old recycled pickle jars and covered the lids in decorative papers. Each one was labeled Let’s Go, Let’s Make and Let’s Eat. (You can print her labels here, to create your own fun jars!) When each of her boys draw something out of our summer fun jars, they select a day of the week and then tape it to their summer fun calendar, made from black poster board and washi tape. This is such a great idea for keeping the kids entertained over summer break without having to beat yourself up every day to come up with exciting new ideas. Don’t you just love it? I think I see a set of summer fun jars in my future – how about you? Happy weekend!
