The Gingerbread Man was one of my favorite stories growing up. I had one of those little golden books with the classic pictures. There are even a few fun updated versions of the story that my kids love to read today. And to help celebrate our story of the brave, mischievous gingerbread man, we’re baking a few delicious gingerbread cookies ourselves!
We used Pillsbury’s pre-made gingerbread dough to help the process move along quickly, as we were anxious to get to the decorating!
First up, rolling. Make sure to have some flour close by in case some of your dough gets sticky. I had my helpers in the kitchen, even dressed to impress in their aprons and chef hats!
Next, cookie cutting. We have two sizes of gingerbread cookie cutters, so there was a whole family of cookies Then it was off to the oven.
With just a few baking supplies, we were ready to start creating. The frosting, raisins, m&ms, and peppermints… all prepped and ready to decorate.
This is when it gets really fun. My kids load on the toppings. The only thing we were missing were the gumdrop candies, just so I could say, “Not the gum drop buttons!”
My kids kept talking about what they were going to eat first, the head, leg, or arm! They might have even had a little taste or two of the frosting covered knives
A fabulous way to celebrate our story time if I do say so myself! These were a few gingerbread cookies that were “caught” by the kiddos! Yum-O!
