Some have asked why I bother to put little modesty boxes over the naked shots of babies on this blog, and this is a good question. It didn’t occur to me to do this at first, and in fact Elsie’s mom thinks it’s silly, but then Elsie’s aunt said she thought strange people might prowl baby websites for naked pictures. This seems a kind of unlikely, but who knows? And Maybe Elsie will grow up to be a modest young lady and not like naked shots of her infanthood on the internet. Maybe she won’t like any shots of her infanthood on the internet! In that case, she’ll just have to blame her father.
Speaking of nude todlers, my twin sister Laura sent me this funny picture of her son Thomas strolling through a public park in Munich, Germany.
Apparently kids get naked with great frequency in the German parks. Everyone just strips them down and they prance about in the fountains. I personally like this practice better than those soggy disposable “swim diapers” I’ve seen looking very pee-laden at most public pools. At least if a naked kid takes a dump in a public swimming hole we can see it and take care of the problem. In those diapers it just gets strained out like in a teabag. At least I think it does.
Well, I for one will miss these dog days of summer when the swimming feels so good. Get out there while you still can!

I agree with you. I just posted a picture of my son shirtless on my blog and his dad was somewhat concerned that some perv would stumble across it. That’s a little extreme, but I would use the bar too if he was naked…you never know. Elsie is adorable – I love your blog. I write on parenting and aging, retreat of cool really. Ha, ha! my toddler is not the only one who prefers to wear her birthday suit! She loves to be free, of course I cover her in public, but at home now in the summer, why not?
