Andrea Peyser of the New York Post has written a scathing post about Heath Ledger that has talk shows reeling with debate. I cannot believe the NY Post published this piece of trash.
Peyser wrote:
“There is nothing noble “He threw it away, as gamely as if he had put a gun to his “Now his daughter will grow up never knowing the man she Peyser further said that people should not cry for Ledger. “Cry for Heath’s daughter. Cry for his parents. Cry for Michelle Williams. But don’t cry for Heath,” she said. The View’s Whoopi Goldberg said the columnist was “pot shotting.”
“If you’re going to say Elisabeth Hasselbeck co-host on ‘The View,’ said the column was ‘irresponsible’. “I thought ‘You don’t know him’. For me, it just made me sad “To not know someone’s situation and certainly not knowing The entire piece is vile, hateful and above all else, ignorant. The truth about Heath ledger has been told — we released it within days of the accident. He suffered from depression, anxiety, lack of sleep, as Hasselbeck said. He did run with a crowd who did drugs and he himself was not into that. The man was troubled. These drugs he took to try and give himself some relief, some sleep, ended fatally and was 100% an accident. I doubt Peyser knew Ledger. I doubt she knew his friends. The man needed help, no question — but his death was not a suicide. It was the result of poor medical care and a failing health system, which includes the pathetic mental health system America has.

More than anything it just deeply saddens me that even after Heaths tragic and untimely passing he cannot get the peace he so desperately sought in life… and that people like Ms Peyser have to add to his families grief and dispair by publishing such hurtful statements about someone whom she didnt know much less had ever met. Hopefully, in the end it will be the truths that he will be remebered for, his talent, his love for artistic expression, as well as his love for family and friends especially his little girl Matilda… hopefully after peoples attempts to make money and cash in on his death, the TRUTH about him will ultimately become the legacy of Heath Ledger…
That is a shame that you have to post such trash lady.
I hope when you pass away people treat you with the same
amount of dignity and respect. If anyone remembers who
you are that is.
I think both Peyser and Karen make strong points. It was fundamentally selfish of Heath to overdose. I suffer from bipolar depression, panic attacks, acute anxiety. I rarely sleep more than 3-5 hours per night and am lucky to hit the 5 mark. I also take meds but never overtake them, no matter how crappy I feel. Why? Because I know how dangerous it is and I have a daughter that I love MORE than myself. It would be selfish to mix alcohol with my meds. or to regulate my own meds. Anything could happen and probably would.
At the same time, I also agree with Karen re the way we treat mental illness here in the USA. It is an all or nothing solution. And more often than not, the solution that would be most beneficial isn’t covered by med. insurance (such as some of the new therapies), forcing people like me to rely more on drug therapy than
anything else.
I am still wondering what injury he had that he had to take Oxycontin, a super addictive painkiller and 1st choice of drug addicts. Did he have spinal surgery or something? It is so addictive most doctors wont prescibe it unless the patient is in constant, excrutiating pain. It is also really great for fighting off the Jones for other drugs if you combine it with Valium and Xanax. He was no saint. Would you let a father drive with your child or even take her out to the park if he had that stuff in his system? Not me.
Oh. My. God.
The trash papers will print to sell copies.
