Selena Gomez has been all but crowned the next ‘it’ teen for Disney. This is a long and impressive list, and it is also a very checkered one.
Remember when it was generally accepted that Christina Aguilera was the bad one and that Britney Spears was golden? Time is funny, isn’t it? The thing is, the press loves to make a big deal about the troubles of the Disney teen idol (the girls that is, you don’t hear anything about Justin Timberlake or Zac Efron- apparently gender is funny, too), but for every Lindsay Lohan spreading stank in her wake there is a Hilary Duff working hard and doing it right. For every Vanessa Anne Hudgens there is an Anne Hathaway.
The most recent young lady to sit the throne, Miley Cyrus, is in a bit of PR spin, but let’s be frank, she hasn’t done anything wrong. She isn’t doing drugs or endangering small children. Sure, there have been pictures released that may cast question on her judgment, but hey, she wasn’t nude. She’s just a teenager doing teenage stuff, but unlike most kids she’s filthy rich and living under a microscope. It’s hard to believe the commotion a few artsy photos caused when one channel over an equally young teenage star is about ready to have a baby. Isn’t that a bit more scandalous?
So, the question is, will Miss Gomez be pregnant and in rehab before sweeps week or will she be able to stay the path despite the lures and pitfalls it offers?
Her parents swear she’ll be okay, and like other well-meaning showbiz parents before them are putting themselves in the position to either protect their daughter or make total asses of themselves. Hey, it happens.
According to People, Selena’s mother Mandy Teefey claims that she (along with Selena’s dad) will
keep her daughter out of trouble. For instance, she has a midnight curfew (or earlier) and never attends events without a parent. She is also held accountable with duties around the house. Says Teefey,
“If she cooks, I clean. If I cook, she cleans. She has to help feed
the dogs. There are really no set chores. We just all pitch in when
needed.”
We hear this talk from parents all the time. I hope they manage to avoid the trappings of the limelight and don’t go the way of the Lohans. I really don’t want to be searching for this post in 8 months as a reference to the calm before the storm.

Hathaway was not a minor and your example is from a movie, which, despite its non-Disney material, isn’t real life which is where the other girls are having trouble.
Anne Hathaway? Really? She starred in Havoc where she in involved in a gang bang and masturbates on camera. She lost her Disney contract for getting involved with that film the same year she filmed the most recent, and as a result the last, Princess Diaries film. Squeaky clean she is not.
