TLC’s Seventeen and Counting parents, Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar welcomed their 18th child on Thursday, December 18 – my uterus is cowering as I write this, just so you know – and yet, they would love to keep going. Yes, they would absolutely go for baby number 19!
Proud papa Jim Bob said of their new daughter, Jordyn-Grace Makiya, “The ultimate Christmas gift from God. She’s just absolutely beautiful, like her mom and her sisters.”
Jim Bob adds, “We both would love to have more.”
Please tell me Michelle was still high on pain meds when she agreed to baby # 19. I mean sure, it’s easy for Jim Bob to say they’d love to have more – he gets to make a deposit and that’s about it. Michelle is the one who has to carry that baby for 9 months, go through all of the physcial changes, the mood swings, the weight-gain, the heartburn, the ridiculous cravings, water retention, swollen hands, feet and ankles, and then the birth. Isn’t her body tired yet? I’m tired just thinking about it.
I suppose whatever makes them happy, but honestly, when will they stop? I have to go make sure my womb is locked up – be back later.

I didn’t think a woman’s body could handle that many pregnancies. I think it’s ridiculous for them to keep having all of these kids. Also with them having these many kids, they expect the older ones to be a parent to a younger sibling…that’s not right. The older ones didn’t give birth to the younger ones. It’s the parents responsibility to be a parent…not the childrens. How can the parents spend individual time with the kids when they keep having more kids? The only time the parents spend time together is to make the babies. The only thing the guy does is plant the seed. Children are a gift from God. Every time I hear about them makes me sick to my stomach.
I have watched the TLC show on this family. I think they are inspiring and have the best intentions for their children. There are only a few things that trouble me. When I visited their personal website, they go into great detail about the physical ramifications of birth control. While I have never used any form of birth control, after 3 children, my husband and I made the choice (which God gives us all) to have no more. My husband underwent a vasectomy. I have known numerous people who are awesome believers, serve the Lord in very fruitful and blessed ministries who have also made the same choice. What Jim Bob and Michelle are doing is sending a message that if you don’t keep having babies, that you are not totally trusting God. This is so wrong and hurtful to SO MANY families who do a wonderful job with the children they choose to have. Homeschooling- awesome idea. Is it for everybody- certainly not. Skirts to the ground on all the girls (even when building the family house) that’s fine, but it does not determine your salvation, nor does it make you more holy. Honestly, how many great men and women of God came out of terrible, immoral, and unholy lifestyles? Do I trust God, YES! Do I have a weak family of 5? NO WAY! Are the Duggar’s more blessed because they have more children? Maybe they think so. If that’s what they think they need to secure their salvation, then that’s for them. It is wrong to send a message that the only proof of trusting God is to reproduce until your uterus falls out.
Ya know, nine kids doesn’t seem like a big family compared to nineteen… lol
