Slumdog Millionaire actor, 10-year-old Azharuddin Mohammed reportedly received a beating from his own father just days after the child walked the red carpet at the Academy Awards.
According to sources, Azharuddin, was slapped and kicked by his father, Ismail, after he refused to be put on display like a trophy.
An onlooker said, “It was like a scene out of Slumdog Millionaire.”
Ismail has since apologized, saying, “I was very sorry that I did what I did. I was so confused and stressed by my son’s homecoming that I did not know myself for a minute. I love my boy and I am very happy to have him home.”
Azharuddin had been given the day off school because he was tired from traveling from the US to Bandra, Mumbai. The boy refused to be put on display outside his home – and his father became angry, by kicking and slapping him “round the face.” Azharuddin’s mom begged Ismail to stop, but he continued the beating, which lasted for about 30 seconds.
The little boy stood up to his father, and said, “I do not want to speak today to any reporters,” which only angered Ismail more. Azharuddin cried out and tried to avoid his father’s flailing hands and feet, before running into the tent that the family calls home. His father followed him and Azharuddin cowered in the corner, crying, holding his face in pain.
A shocked onlooker said, “Azharruddin’s father was upset that he was asking to be left alone because he was tired. He didn’t attend school today so that he could recover from his long flight from LA and simply wanted all the attention to stop.
“However, when Azharuddin put his foot down and said that was it and there was to be no more talking, Ismail just flipped. It was like a scene out of Slumdog Millionaire.”
Despicable! His father was stressed about his son’s homecoming, so to address that, he smacks his kid around? Ugh.
Shouldn’t his father be proud of his child and perhaps hug him on his arrival home, instead of slapping and kicking him?

Im sure ill get flamed for saying it,
but that is largely the world of Islam.
Its not misunderstood, its just violent.
Beat your kids, cover your wifes face,
cut their heads off if they speak like infidels.
Exactly, shouldn’t the father be hugging and kissing him, instead of slapping and kicking him. Even though my dad is rough I know, that he wouldn’t do that!
Hey, blog your brains out but how many of you are so disturbed by the film. I know I am and I am choosing to do something about it by calling my Senators and Congressional reps about obvious horror of these children live in every day? For the rest of you, you will never make a difference with you’re lazy ass blogs. Step up, share your voice, be an American or shut the hell up. Get a pair and make a difference!
@sassy smith
Exactly. Child abuse is unacceptable, no matter where you live. And, sadly, this kind of abuse takes place all over the world. To write it off as a problem common only to the East, is to deny the global reality of child abuse. I hope that this sweet little boy gets the help that he needs, and never has to experience such a horrible beating again.
Regardless of what “world” we’re living in, no child deserves to be hit/slapped/kicked/abused.
Yes the Western world is sooo much better arent they. The kids back talk and curse at there parents and they send their parents to homes after they turn 60-70. Its definitely alot better here in the “land of freedom”
Ah yes, so unlike the Western world, which as we all know, is a shining beacon of hope for the rest of the world.
Don’t be surprised people. The eastern nations are backwards and fucked up. In Asia at least. I hope that father falls off a cliff, anus first onto a pike.
