Elizabeth Edwards Has "No Idea" If John’s The Baby Daddy

By | May 5th, 2009 at 6:01 pm

John Edwards and legitimate family

Elizabeth Edwards sat down with Oprah this week to tell the world her story, and snippets of the convo (set to air Thursday) are making their way out.

Apparently, Elizabeth came on the show to talk about her battle with terminal cancer, John Edwards’ affair, and her upcoming memoirs Resilience — but mostly John’s affair and the messy, lingering aftermath. According to Elizabeth, John may very well be a baby daddy to Rielle Hunter’s 1-year-old daughter.

“I’ve seen a picture of the baby. I have no idea.  It doesn’t look like my children but I don’t have any idea.”

When asked whether she still loved her husband, she replied: “You know, that’s a complicated question”

If you remember the story, Hunter didn’t list the father’s name on her daughter’s birth certificate, so it’s not super clear whether she actually believes John is the father or not.

Still, with all of the rumors that Rielle got hush money from John’s campaign and speculation that she and the baby are living in a secret home payed for by John to keep them from being overrun by reporters like me, it looks like he’s the daddy.

Shelley – I admire your compassion. I would argue that while John has lost a son and almost lost a wife, Eliz. has lost that same son and almost lost her life. I don’t buy cheating as an excusable escape. I’ve lost a son (but, knock on wood, have not been terminally ill.) I know the despair of losing a child. Of course we are all unique and respond differently to situations… I just can’t wrap my brain around the choice he made.

It’s sad that this affair has caused so much pain to everyone, including all the children. But I haven’t seen a shred of understanding from anyone for John Edwards.

This man had been through the death of a son, and the probability of losing the wife he loved. In the midst of that type of life stress, people often reach outside their familly, to someone who represents freedom from the stress and pain. It’s happened to many people.

Sure, he would have been a better man if he hadn’t had the affair, but he is just a fallible human being like the rest of us. I’m a married woman, and I certainly emphathize with Elizabeth, but how about recognizing they are both living in a situation of great stress?

politically, i was a big john edwards supporter both times he ran. i think he could have done a lot of good for this country. he should have known better. he should have kept his pants zipped! any hit his political career takes now is well-deserved. it is disgusting that he did this to his wife and children, and then even when he admitted to it, he STILL lied about it, first telling her it was just a one-time thing. and i think it is just going to get worse. that new baby may not look like any of elizabeth and john edwards’s kids, according to her, BUT that baby sure looks like john edwards himself. maybe she really doesn’t know if it’s john’s baby…..but that’s just ’cause she doesn’t wanna know. the whole situation is just so sad.

The pain and humiliation John Edward’s caused his cancer-stricken wife by his affair with Rielle Hunter is diabolical. I myself had a masectomy; and let me tell you, after you lose your breast, you have serious doubts and worries that your husband will find you less than a woman. My husband had an affair a year after my masectomy. I had to take arimidex which took all the estrogen out of my body; and, it effected our sex life. Need I say more!

When I found out he was having an affair, I thought “how can I compete with a two-breasted woman. I know that Elizabeth Edwards feels the same way. Her husband was well aware of her self-doubts because of her masectomy. But, like, my husband, he just had to get together in his mind a “whole woman” again. Since he left; my body image has become so bad, I got a facelift, and an upper and lower bleph. I go to the gym constantly and work out. Trying to compensate for the poor body image I have, especially, after my husband left me. John Edwards is an egotistical beast; and, Rielle Hunter, his mistress, just loved it knowing that Elizabeth had one breast and she had two. Sorry, but that is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
