Santa Claus says: Smoke More

By | October 19th, 2008 at 12:45 pm

This kid knows what a good cigarette is

Well, that’s what he used to say. Check out some of these vintage cigarette ads that were recently profiled in the New York Times.

Of the numerous cancer stick advertisements that now look completely ridiculous, my favorite are these two.

First, the baby:

Daddy! Smoke Marlboro!

Yes, I wish my kids would tell me to smoke more.

And of course, there’s Santa Claus:

Santa Claus smokes! Shouldn't you?

Clearly Santa’s throat was scratchy from spending all that time in chimneys. Not the Pall Malls.

It’s just too sad. My dad died at 60 of lung cancer. His cigarettes of choice? Pall Mall Red unfiltered.
Of course people make the choice to smoke, but he started in the 1950′s when these were the kinds of ads that were around.
