Twins Born in Different Years

By | January 3rd, 2009 at 8:22 pm

The downside to having twins is obvious: twice as many
diapers, spit-up, and screaming tantrums at all hours of the evening. The
upside? You only have to remember one birthday.

That is, unless you’re Tangernika and Tarrance Woods of
Detroit, whose twins were born not only on two different days, but in two
different years.

Tarrance Jr. made his entrance at 11:51 p.m. on Wednesday,
December 31, 2008. Brother Tariq was born 26 minutes later at 12:17 a.m. on
Thursday, the first day of January 2009.

I can’t imagine what it must be like to be a twin and share
your whole life with another person. But at least Tarrance and Tariq will each
have separate birthdays to call their own.

Of course, I’m sure they’ll still share a birthday party and
will get totally shafted by having their birthdays so close to Christmas.

My first thought when hearing this was exactly the same as what Lula wrote.

Actually, my wife and I are planning on trying in March to have another baby. I keep thinking how great it would be for the child to be born by the end of 2009 (as opposed to the beginning of 2010) for that very same reason.

Tarrance could end up a year ahead of Tariq in school.

My brother and sister are also twins with different birthdays. And different astrological signs and different blood types. Apparently, the doctor had asked my mom if he should just write the same date down for both babies, since they are twins (she said no).

Strangely enough, my mom and her brother (not twins) have the same birthday, as well as my gram and her brother (also not twins) who were both born on Christmas.

Ah, but it would have been even better if they could have written both twins off in 2008 AND 2009. (We had our twins on Dec. 28th and got the big double deduction!)

The oh-so-pragmatic upside to this situation is that the Woods parents get to write Tarrance off on their 2008 taxes, and then write Tariq off on their 2009 taxes.
