Baby Snuggie
Sweet Christmas.
You are probably familiar with the Snuggie. It’s a blanket with sleeves. It sort of looks like a robe. Here’s the ad if you have no idea what I’m talking about.
The Snuggie has been featured in The New York Times, more than once. It was recently embraced by conservatives such as Joe the Plumber and Tucker Carlson. (The sad thing is I don’t know which one of those guys has a better career at the moment. But I digress.)
So what’s an entrepreneur to do? Well, in the words of the great Homer Simpson, take an existing product and put a clock in it. Or, in the case of the Baby Snuggie, a second head.
OK, now let’s be specific. This product is actually called the Peekaru, from a company called TogetherBe. And I think it came out before the Snuggie. Can’t tell.
Also — don’t care. Because when I look at that photo, all I can think of is the alien fetus thing from ‘Total Recall’. Kuato. Remember him? Why are people getting all pissy? If you like it – wear it great! So the baby’s head can go through the hole – but this picture is funny – that’s all he was trying to do.

Oh, comeon. You picked the one and only weird picture of it. All the others have the baby’s head fully out. It looks so much less weird like that.
Although I just sewed an extra zip-on panel for my parka.
I get the concept, but that is weird looking….
Now they need to organize a snuggie pub crawl I keep hearing about …
I have a Peekaru myself and I wear baby on my back with my head sticking all the way out. The photo above puts a smile on my face, but it isn’t the way most people wear it.

OK I will admit that picture is… odd-looking… but honestly most people don’t wear them like that. Most people put the baby’s head all the way through the hole.
My daughter insisted on being held constantly for the first 6 months of her life, and if I didn’t have slings and mei tais to wear her in to keep my hands free I would have lost my mind. This jacket looks awesome. I didn’t know about them and just squeezed into my regular jacket and tried my best to zip it up. If I have another small baby during winter months that wants to be worn all the time, I will probably be getting one of these.
Okay, exactly what resemblance does this have to a snuggie? This is just one picture of how this can be worn, and yes the baby can have his entire head and arms outside the head hole. I don’t know how many times I took my baby hiking in my baby bjorn, and tried to zip him into my jacket. Totally NOT comfortable. I think that this is genius and I will definitely be getting one with my next child. Call it whatever you want, but I think it is a great solution for babywearing in cold weather.
These are actually really great, most people put the babies head all the way through to avoid the alien effect! The great thing is that you can turn the vest around and use it with your baby in a back carry, superb for autumn / winter babywearing when it’s a bit too warm for a proper coat.

OK I didn’t even go as far as reading this. I saw the picture and that did it for me. I have seen it all now. That looks absolutely ridiculous and horrific. I can only imagine if I saw somebody sporting that thing with a baby in tow. I would definitely do a double or even triple take. RIDICULOUS!
I love it. I would have used one of these had I known there was one out there. We walk everywhere so for cold morning jaunts to the coffee shop it is perfect!
What’s so weird about it? I have one. For those of us who prefer to wear our babies year round, it’s a terrific way to keep both of us warm. It’s incredibly difficult to stuff a fully bundled baby into a carrier, and wearing a wrap or carrier over a winter coat isn’t very safe because the wrap or carrier can’t be tied tight enough. This way, my kid doesn’t have to wear a snowsuit, and I don’t have to freeze with my coat open. There are a number of companies that make babywearing outerwear…there’s the mamaponcho, the kindercoat, etc. In Europe, these kinds of products are very common.
As a mom who lives in a city and walks everywhere rather than drive, this kind of product is great.
There are no words for the horror I’ve just experienced by reading this. I think I just may have nightmares from this.
I’ll be sure to pass this post off to my great aunt…I’m pretty sure she’ll want one for her dog.
