UPDATE: Jamie Foxx Apologizes To Miley Cyrus

By | April 18th, 2009 at 11:30 pm

Jamie Foxx issued a mea culpa on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno. EOnline.com reports that Foxx responded with a “Yeah” when Jay Leno asked him “Did you say something inappropriate?” Here’s the rest of it from EOnline:

“I so apologize to [Cyrus], and this is sincere…I am a comedian, and you guys know that whatever I say, I don’t mean any of it. And sometimes, as comedians, as we do, we go a little bit too far. I have a radio show…We’re really the black Howard Stern. We go at everybody. There was a situation with Miley Cyrus, and I just want to say, I apologize for what I said. I didn’t mean it maliciously. You know I’m a comedian.”

Then, looking at the camera, “Miley, I apologize, so I’ll call you. I got a daughter too, so I completely understand.”

So there you go. Good enough? I think so. Do you agree?

Original post follows below.

*-*-*-*-*

So, like, hey now.

A little background. Jamie Foxx has a channel on SiriusXM Satellite Radio where he does a show called The Foxxhole. He said some… things about Miley Cyrus (aka Miley Ray Cyrus Hannah Montana Stewart Lipschutz). Someone called in and mentioned Miley’s little dustup with Radiohead (she wanted to meet them, they said no, she got pissy and yakked about it on some radio show). The Oscar-winning Mr. Foxx then went off a bit. Here’s the audio, which is not safe for work. At all. Seriously. You have been warned.

So yeah. He said it. There are a few other people in the mix, and I’m not sure who said what. I’m fairly certain it was Jamie Foxx who said that Miley should make a “sex tape”, and then a female voice added “with your dad.” “White bitch” was in there. Also something about doing heroin “like Britney” (I must have missed that headline about Brit nodding out), as well as a suggestion that Miley catch VD from a bicycle seat. (I didn’t think that was possible, but hey, what do I know?)

A few things to say here. First, Foxx said this on his radio show this past Sunday. It appears to only be coming out now. That doesn’t diminish it, but it does mean that not a lot of people heard the comments. Second, he was trying to be funny. That doesn’t excuse the comments at all, of course. But in theory performers get more latitude when it comes to humor.

As for what was said: it was completely inappropriate and in incredibly poor taste. I’m not a fan of Miley’s; I think her music is horrible, and the message of her entire persona seems to be that fame is a goal worth trying for, which is something I don’t agree with. (That’s the short version of a longer thought that I’ll share one of these days.) In my opinion you can make fun of anything and talk about whatever you want. But when its an underage person, boy or girl, and you start saying “white bitch” and suggest that she make a sex tape with her dad, that seems unnecessary. He has the right to say it. But why would he? (A commenter at LATimes.com says that the Foxx clip is somewhat out of context, but, like the Rodney King video, I’m not sure that context matters in this case. Maybe it does, but I doubt it.)

There’s also plenty to make fun of when it comes to Miley. The Radiohead thing. The fact that she sleeps in her parents bed sometimes, despite being sixteen years old. Her music. Her TV show. Lots of material to work with before you go to “white bitch” who should do heroin and make a sex tape.

What do you think? Should underage famous people be off-limits, at least in some ways? Or did Miley deserve it?

Jamie shouldn’t have to feel pressured into an apology they are both entertainers & to my knowledge this is a chosen profession that pays REALLY well to console you when you become the butt of jokes. Our country, not mention global economy, are way more important than some spoiled brat who didn’t get her way so she had a tantrum & made threats that she could never make happen. I’m a mother of a soon to be teenage daughter & if she acts like a brat she already knows to be prepared for being treated as such.
By the way for all the people already thinking of what negative things you are going to say back to me….hold that thought about to go see The Soloist

Jamie Foxx is a vile pig and a blow hard. I will never spend another cent on anything he is associated with or in. I urge people who feel the same to write emails and letters to the sponsors and production facilities that support this racist and verbal abuser of a child.

The bitch deserved it. It’s just a friggin’ joke.
Get a sense of humor, you ignorant morons.

I am a white person. I have two Jamie Foxx movies and one CD. I can’t wait to see the next movie – but I won’t go and count how many black and how many white are sitting with me.

I appreciate his stepping up and making the apology – whether you think he went too far or not, being able to say you’re sorry when you’ve caused someone to be hurt is a great thing to model, and something we don’t see a lot of. Sometimes, I’d much rather my kids see someone make a mistake and apologize for it than always act perfect.

I will never see another show or buy anything to do with Jamie Foxx ever again. I can’t wait to see him selling his mansions off and begging for a job in the near future .They will finish this movie but when it bombs he will never work again. All his fame went to his ass when he opend it and said the things he did.Remember Jamie it is Black people who buy your movies……………………………

As usual, I completely agree with Marj. She’s 16, not six. If the fact that not everyone finds her adorable is too much for her to handle, she’s more than welcome to exit stage left. Our daughters certainly don’t need her bullshit to emulate.

If the girl wants to act grown… dress the way that she does as a MINOR, then she is to blame. Adults have to suffer consequences… she is 16… an adolescent (teenager), not a young child! That is show business for you. She thinks she is so cute because her father is famous and she was able to use him. Not every young celebrity is able to do that. Some have to work hard to get in show business, so she cut herself a huge break.

Now, if this was Raven… then YES, this would have been a different story. Raven is smart and always seems to respect herself out in public. She is not showy or arrogant. I think Miley can come across a little too arrogant and that is what got her in trouble… Her attitude! You only have one chance to make an impression.

If a Minor decides to fit in and dress like a slut, then whether she is white or black, she is going to get called what she does not want to be called. No one told her to act the way that she does or to dress that way. The girl is way too grown and someone needed to put her in her place. If it was a black girl… NOBODY would have said anything. Whites get it easier than blacks. Look at what happened to Brandy and Janet Jackson. Everything was blown up over a pregnancy and a popped out breast. But we hardly say anything when a white person makes the same mistakes. We give them a slap on the wrist.

“Suck it up Miley… that is the price that you pay when you enter show business. If it is too much for you to handle then cry about it and stay out. Someone could always replace you!”

Agreed that she wants to be an adult without the consequences regarding same – but then again she is only 16 years old. In fact, there are a lot of adults who want to be an adult without the consequences of being an adult. Jamie Foxx was wrong for saying that – he acted like a boy not a man – taking a swipe at a 16 year old girl – he’s the bitch. He only did that to generate publicity for his new movie – to get people talking. Whether you like Miley’s music or not Jamie’s comments were inappropriate. If I was famous and called his daughter a “little black whore” my career would be over. If you read interviews by the black actors and musicians – most of them are racist from Spike Lee to Densel Washington to Samuel L Jackson – Queen Latifah and so on – but usually no one pays attention to their comments. Ultimately, its all a game its all business – nothing more. But Jamie should figure out a better way to keep his name in the lime light – like make a good movie!

Words hurt – he should post his apology on a website like Apology Center and let the Internet world decide if it’s worthy, ya know?

hah GO JAMIE she deserves it, and her dads taking it way to far it was a joke, and frankly i think a pretty funny one

  13. Anonymous says:

I completely agree, Marj. I couldn’t have said it better.

  14. Anonymous says:

It’s hard to consider her a “child” when she was dating an adult. She’s a teen, who wants to be an adult when it’s fun for her, and a child when it comes to taking responsibility for her actions. I think she’s fair play for a comedian. This isn’t like when SNL was making fun of Chelsea Clinton – she was not only a teen, but she was an innocent bystander who did not seek the spotlight. Miley is not an innocent bystander.

  15. leahsmom says:

I’m just glad he didn’t say she should be raped – because that one is still out there a lot (see comments by “Big Love” producers).

I hope that Jamie Foxx gets the same treatment as Don Imus.

Doesn’t Jamie Foxx have a teenage daughter himself? How would he feel if someone – anyone – called her a ‘black bitch’ and suggested she grow up and start using drugs and making pornography.

    Absolutely disgusting!

Jamie Foxx: “white bitch” = not racist
any white person: “black bitch” = racist who should be made an example of….
    could someone please explain?

Ok I heard the interview live with her talking about Radiohead…she was actually VERY good natured about it, and compared it fans meeting her. Very articulate…I was really shocked. Not sure if it’s the same one and she said something stupid on another show, which is very much like her to do…but it’s on 106.1 KISS FM out of Dallas Texas.

    Anyway, where’s morning news?

  19. Anonymous says:

I don’t really keep up with celebrities, but this sounds like stuff no one should say about anyone. Catch VD from a bicycle seat? Obnoxious!

  20. Anonymous says:

She is just a teenager…and doesn’t Jamie Foxx have a teenage daughter of his own? How would he feel if someone – anyone – called his daughter a ‘black bitch’ who should “grow up” and start using drugs and making pornography?

Absolutely disgusting, regardless of the context.

Both of them were out of line and said stupid things they shouldn’t have. The difference between the snarky comments is that one was made by a child who is still learning what appropriate social behavior is…and the other was made by an adult, who has no excuse for not knowing what his behavior is. Classy, Foxx. Really, the height of class. I’m not in on the Miley craze, but really, how much of Foxx’s reaction is simply jealousy that she’s less than half his age and has a bigger following and more money than he ever will. Either way, I have no intention of supporting his ego…or further Miley-mania … My money isn’t going to box office revenue for either of them from now on.

she wanna be grown…..here’s to her…….take it or stay in a child’s place….

  23. Anonymous says:

Why her young azz wanna hang out with grown ass men anyway…….she want to get an attitude because they’re trying to protect themselves……who needs a falsified case against them…..exactly….

  24. Anonymous says:

I think there’s more pressing things than these damn celebrities lives……..that’s what’s wrong with this country……he say she say bull

  25. Anonymous says:

…..whatever…….Brittney and Jamie Lynn Spears were also Disney “characters”…..and?

  26. Anonymous says:

wow jamie that was not cool at all. that’s a child.

  27. elohveeee12 says:

i cannot stand the whole Hannah Montana craze, though I will admit that was taking it a little far. If she did say she was going to ruin radioheads career just because they wouldn’t meet her, thats a little messed up. But still no reason to say that she should get VD from a bike seat.

On another note, I don’t think it was foxx that said she should make a sex tape, that was the other guy in the studio. You can tell because Jamie was calling in so when he talked it was kind of static-y, and the other guys voice was much clearer.
still doesnt make it any better that he called her a white bitch and whatnot, but thought I would throw that out there.

  28. MistressScorpio says:

Not cool of Jamie. I think everything Miley and Hannah related is pretty much mass-marketed garbage, but because of the Disneyfied enclave about her, this is going to go down as simply mean.
