Gloria Allred’s Suing Octomom for Exploiting Her Kids

By | May 4th, 2009 at 7:59 pm

You thought this would have died down by now, didn’t you. Come on, you thought eight times was enough.

Sorry, Octomom Nadya Suleman and her Angelina-inspired lips are surely pouting now. She’s being taken to court by celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred for allegedly exploiting her kids.

Not that we’re surprised. Allred is no doubt still smarting over Suleman’s decision to can the nannies Allred arranged to help out for free, via Angels in Waiting. Then there are those pesky abuse allegations

And did we mention Octomom’s branding it all? And taking the kids on TV?

You know – after she said she hated the name and you couldn’t pay her to put her family in the public eye?

Allred is representing Paul Peterson, a child actor turned child advocate, and together they’re alleging the Suleman kids’ financial interests need to be protected as Nadya earns money off of them. They’re also citing concerns about child labor laws, pointing to an almost two-hour span when the infants were videotaped in March, the night they came home from the hospital, for Radar.

Although I’m with most of America in thinking this woman is nutty as a fruitcake, I am going to step up on this one and say Allred needs to make it clear why she’s doing this. Is anyone suing Jon and Kate Gosselin to make sure funds from Jon and Kate Plus 8 are being set aside for their eight kids? How about Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar? Neither of those couples would be raking in the dough without the kids either, but it can be argued that the parents are using the money to provide for their kids (Jon and Kate provide for their kids in a million dollar home thanks to their show).

Or maybe Octomom is just an easy mark? A woman who is obviously desperate for money (among other things). A woman who doesn’t have a partner to help her fight back (her fault there, I know, I know). A woman who is so money hungry it isn’t even funny. She’s her own worst enemy, folks. Does she really need Gloria Allred going after her?

We all know Nadya is extremely immature. Her children are her toys. Kate Gosselin is much more dangerous than poor old Nadya. Kate has become a multi-millionare because of her angry personality, the way she treats Jon and the kids, the devious schemes she has used to bilk money from trusting old ladies and naive young ladies. Nadya is a child in comparison.

Ok, the women had way to many kids and is loving all of this attention. All she is trying to do is make a buck. We need to stop feeding into all this drama. Society has enough to do now with having to support these children and in ensuring they are well taken care of.

Unbelievably, I keep finding myself on Nadya’s side lately (and I’m not a pro-Nadya person). Gloria Allred has no business butting in anymore. They worked together briefly, it didn’t work out, the end.

Other TV shows were mentioned–Jon and Kate, The Duggers–but there are so many more, such as all those baby stories on TLC. It’s ridiculous that Gloria Allred would target one… it’s clearly a case of hurt feelings and tarnished reputation when Nadya fired Allred’s organization.

While I don’t think having 14 kids with no way to support them is a good idea, I can’t fault Nadya for looking for ways to make money. If I had 14 kids, I’d be doing just about anything to get nanny help, diaper and food money… even college money!

i think its good that they are suing for this. at least the kids have some chance of seeing some money later. you know shes just going to spend it all on superfluous crap. she already does.

I don’t think that parent should be allowed to exploit their children on TV shows, period, and yes that includes the endless Jon & Kate fiasco. It should be included under child labor laws, because as we all know these “reality” shows aren’t really reality, and having a camera crew following small children around should be considered work.

Seems to me they are both talking from the same side of the coin. I wish they would just stop feeding this woman’s media fire and keep social services on the kids to make sure that they are being cared for properly. I feel like we are looking at some really nasty aspects of our society that has already gotten enough attention. I just feel bad for those poor kids and hopes that she gets some help on a whole lot of levels. A lawsuit is just going to give her more media focus.
