An Easter Surprise: Healthier Peeps
Attention Peep Fans: This is the news you have all been waiting for – gourmet peeps! Unlike regular old peeps these will actually eventually biodegrade! The good news is that you can make them yourself. The bad news is that you have to make them yourself.
Seriously. I am not making these up. They don’t even have any marshmallow in them at all. I normally don’t like peeps (don’t freak out, I don’t like cotton candy or apple pie either) but these sound good. We originally found the link on Slashfood, but the recipe for Saffron Meringue Chicks is here on Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories and they look delicious.
It would take way more patience than I possess to make these, so if you guys make them, please let me know how they turn out. Or even better, if you live near me, please bring some over. I’ll be home in time for Easter.

Anonymous commented on Jan 01 70 at 12:00 amI hate peeps. My kids love them though, so maybe I’ll try these.
RachelZ commented on Jan 01 70 at 12:00 amI’m with Grammy – Peeps are the spawn of hell and have no place in the civilized world except as tools for pranks and art.
Anonymous commented on Jan 01 70 at 12:00 amIs nothing sacred? Peeps are meant to taste like week-old stale marshmallows from the moment one opens the box. They’re good BECAUSE they’re awful.
Anonymous commented on Jan 01 70 at 12:00 amYuk! I am one of the unusual ones who hated peeps since forever. They are terrible. I don’t think I will be making any.
regandbabe commented on Jan 01 70 at 12:00 ami made some of these, well minus the saffron i just used food coloring in the meringue mixture, last year in an attempt to be classy- they were good but not peepalicious. meringue is harder, crustier than marshmallow which took the fun out of putting the peeps in the microwave!
