Anonymous commented on Jan 01 70 at 12:00 amI totally agree with Sheri here. As much as my heart was broken at first by Laurie and Jo not being together, the professor is so much better for her. They’re friends and partners. Isn’t that a good thing to teach our children?
Anonymous commented on Jan 01 70 at 12:00 amI’m a lifelong fan of *Little Women*, too–so much so that part of my dissertation focused on it! But you know, Jo’s romance with Professor Bhaer and the school the two of them founded in *Jo’s Boys* has always been one of my favorite parts of the novel. Professor Bhaer is smart and adores Jo for her intellect and kindness–what could be wrong with that? Meanwhile, Laurie clearly worries that Jo is not enough of a looker and not quite his equal socially.
My own position may be a bit slanted here, though: I am married to a dear, charmingly rumpled professor!
