Is Miley Cyrus’ First Photo Shoot Creepy?

Posted by on December 16th, 2008 at 4:15 pm

Miley Ray Cyrus Hannah Montana Stewart Lipschutz’s first photo shoot has surfaced. The shots were taken back in 2002, and some of them are way creepy. At least that’s my opinion. You may feel differently. Let’s take a look, shall we?

Some of the images are fairly tame, even for kiddie modeling shots.

Then comes the belly shirt. And the quasi-pouty face.

Actually, I can’t decide if this last one is a pout or a “Why am I doing this?” expression.

I’m not a big fan of putting your kids into the entertainment industry. There are obviously cases where the kid wants to do it, and sometimes the kid wants to do it and actually has some talent. But how does a parent participate in a photo shoot where their daughter is wearing a midriff-bearing t-shirt? I feel a bit creepy just writing about this.

Here’s a shot with, I think, Miley’s mommy.

Not sure if this was candid or staged. I

Her first two photos are appropriate but that midriff-blouse pic is way teenager-ish

She is posed like an adult fashion model. I used to make believe I was a model and assume these kinds of poses. Role playing is a natural part of coming of age, but a photographer/parents should never photograph or publish seductive photos of children that are takem in any kind of earnestness. WTF?

I was LOL at the title! You can add the names “Destiny Hope” to that list, as that is her real name.

About the pix–please. But then, Billy Ray has never exhibited intelligence when it comes to anything about his daughter.

I agree with anne05, there has to be something very wrong anyone who sees those photos as sexy. Maybe we as parents don’t “see them as sexy” but a pedophile certainly would. I myself would never allow my daughter to pose like this nor would she want to, because I brought her up to have respect for herself and her body. Children only behave like the parent they identify with the most.

Anne05, I don’t think people are saying that they “see them as sexy.” What we see is a child in come-hither poses that could have been taken directly from a Playboy shoot.

Should we put the blame on Miley or her parents for “seductive” photos?

Or should we worry about a culture that see’s an eight(?) year old’s stomach as a potential sex object?

Doesn’t matter what Miley wears in these photos. She’s a child. If you see them as sexy that’s something wrong with you.

Ok, I’m not a parent yet, but when I was younger I wanted to be a model. We have pictures of me posing very similarly to Miley, except they were taken by my parents and my parents didn’t tell me to pose like that, I was just hamming it up for the camera. I even begged my mom to take me to a modeling audition, but headshots cost too much money at the time. And yes, as a kid in the 90′s I wore belly shirts, as my mom did as a kid in the ’60s and ’70s, she didn’t see anything wrong with it and would even tell me “If you’ve got it flaunt it” because she wanted me to be proud of my body. Now, I didn’t turn into a model, but I see innocence in these pictures. I think child pageants are much worse than these, but maybe I’ve seen little miss sunshine a little too many times.
