Political Nanny: Did YOU Top Meghan McCain’s Father’s Day Gift?
Awwwww. Meghan McCain trumped daughters everywhere this year with her Father’s Day gift for Republican candidate/dad John McCain.
No ties, no mugs, no glittery art projects. Instead, she officially joined the Republican Party.
See, Meghan had always been a registered Independent since she could vote. But at 25 years old … and during the race of her father’s life … she made the commitment to go all the way and become a Republican. Last week while in Phoenix, her mom walked her down to the country registrar and she signed on the conservative bottom line.
Here’s what she said (scroll down to June 12):
I did this as a symbol of my commitment to my dad and to represent the faith I have in his ability to be an effective leader for our country and to grow and strengthen the Republican party when he is elected President of the United Stataes. Happy Father’s Day, Dad!
In the past, Meghan has said her father isn’t as sexy and fresh and interesting as Barack Obama and made it known she wasn’t a Republican. You had to wonder if she would actually vote for him. But she’s also been on the road with her father and the Straight Talk Express for most of the campaign so far, meeting with the biggest of the big (who are left) in the GOP. Fully immersed like that, maybe party affiliation starts to take.
Of course, the ballot she casts will nonetheless be secret. Still kind of wondering ….
