BSDM Barbie - or is it?Let me take you through my reactions to this story.

Hello, what’s this? S&M Barbie? The toy? The overdeveloped, underfed doll? The one dating a man with no genitals? That seems

I would totally buy a Black Canary Barbie if I had daughters. I have boys and they love JLA. That said, I have a friend that collects Barbies and goes to church and I will probably buy it for her.

First of all, I don’t have daughters. I have two sons (and a husband) who are super into all things comics and Star Wars (so much so, our 3rd son’s middle name is Hawkeye). That being said, if there were, say, a Batman Ken, I don’t think the boys would even want it. It wouldn’t have the correct “action figure pedigree”, if you will.

Secondly, was it an episode of “Robot Chicken” with the skit about a guy doll on a dating show with a Barbie doll and a Bratz doll…Funny stuff!

Even if it were S&M Barbie, what’s sexist about that? Do only men enjoy non-vanilla activities?

My daughter doesn’t like dolls, so I don’t have to make a decision, but I don’t understand what the problem with a Black Canary Barbie is. If you’re okay with Barbies and with the fact that comic book heroines are usually scantily-clad, given the main audience for comics, is there any problem with this?

If people want to raise a ruckus about sexy dolls for kids, they should perhaps focus on Bratz, which, so far as I can tell, are just little hookers who have no identities nor worth beyond what’s between their legs. That’s a bigger problem, IMO, because instead of Barbie’s rather holistic tartiness – that is, she’s sexy AND a lawyer, just like real women are – Bratz are just male porn fantasies given to children.
