Strollerderby Playdate: Mamas Doin’ For Themselves
In blogging circles (and these are extremely influential, exclusive circles, mind you…seriously! OK, not seriously), we hear the term “mommy blogger” nearly as much as people wonder aloud what Perez Hilton’s newest nickname for Britney is or if Dooce will ever email them back. The reality is that the term, as much as I embrace it myself, in no way speaks to the diversity of mommy or blogger experiences. That’s why I love highlighting the people who we don’t peek into read enough — the two-mom families, the mothers in treatment for cancer while raising kids and working and yes, even the moms who have a little thing for shiny shoes for each new season. Today, we’re talking single moms. Here are just a few of those mamas who are blogging about raising kids alone, with separated partners, with families and friends, in many rich, rewarding, exhausting, not-so-easy ways:
Single Mom in the City, because relatting to an ex friend-style, which is not necessarily the Friends-style once imagined, is good.
One-Woman Show, because funny is good.
Ms. Single Mama, because straight-forward advice is good.
Serving the Queens, because poignant is good.
Lion & Magic Boy, because our own Karen is very, very good.
…and of course, Single Mom Seeking is a place every mama who is doin’ it for herself must stop for a refreshing read, great questions and handy little resources.
