I am in awe of families that have three or four children. But when the
number of offspring hits the double digits? I so can

If every family adopted this philosophy there would be real trouble. This lifestyle is not sustainable on a wider scale and they should acknowledge this fact.

It goes to show that there is some people in this world that can raise a family. In this day and age there is lot of families who can’t even cope in raising one child. The haters should read a newspaper sometime. There is a lot the Dugger family can teach us in trying to raise a family.

This family has it going on. They are organized and everyone knows what to do. I do not know why people
are critizing this family for the number of children
they have. Families long ago had 15, 16, 17,18 kids.
they all took care of each other. That’s what families
do. God has truly blessed this family. Please don’t
make fun or critizize them for what God has given
them. How many parents get along with their kids as well
as these do? Think about it. Even though YOU may not
won’t to do this, how well do you get along with your
children?

If the Duggar want this many children, I applaud them. I read that they are debt free but not for long when its time to pay for college or will they get married like they older sibling did at age 20 last month. Dad may have been a legislator but what is he doing now or did he pass a bill that the government support families with this many kids.

I am surprised at the response from people about this family. They have made a commitment to raise their children in a healthy environment. They have taught them responsibility for themselves and others. They are allowed 7hrs of television a month and they are encouraged to read. What other parents take the time to even know what their kids are watching when the set them in front of the 1-eyed babysitter?
They are all internet intelligent and they all play a musical instrument. They are all healthy and happy and well provided for without government assistance.
It amazes me how judgmental people can be when their lives and choices don’t fall into the status quo.

This is the 21st century. There is no need for a team of workers to tend the farm. While it’s impressive, it’s not normal, nor particularly fair to these kids who could not possibly all be getting all of their needs met being lost in a sea of children.

The Duggar children are smarter than some public school graduates. Josh, the oldest passed the Arkansas high school exam at 16, and started taking collage classes. Do your homework before you start bashing people. People who wonder what’s wrong with society should read some of these online postings, they will figure it out quickly.

I just think they are beautiful, all of them. Congratulations on #18. Ignore the haters, Michele and Jim Bob. Thank you for putting 18 beautiful, well-adjusted people on the earth.
For the haters: The Duggars are debt-free. This is exactly what an independent community is like. I’m sure the carbon footprint of their entire family is smaller than mine.
Why does everybody have to be a carbon copy? What’s wrong with having a big family? Who are YOU to tell Michele how many kids she can have? If you think it’s all about “choice”, then please respect HERS.
My opinion: It’s all about love and beauty and living in harmony with God. Seems like they do all of that very well.

Why are people so hateful to the Duggars just because they have a lot of children?

The Duggars are part of a very ugly and oppressive sect known as the Quiverful movment. It’s called Wikipedia – look it up. Their children are under-educated as their homeschooling is limited and kind of nutty (unlike many homeschoolers). The child rearing techniques are contravertial at best.

You want to have lots of kids? Fine – good on you. I think it can be done and done well. It’s cheaper by the dozen they say. But this family is part of a movement that hurts women and children.

Just think about this, Mrs. Duggar’s doctor recommended she not have this last child, long before she was pregnant. Due to the dangerous beliefs of her cultish group, they didn’t just avoid contraception, they did everything she could to get pregnant again. Is that what a religion should promote – having as many children as humanly possible regardless of the danger it poses to the woman?

I wish these children well. I hope they get out and live free from the horrible restrictions imposed by their parents’ beliefs.

Heather S.-
I saw them on the show, which i believe was the today show. And first those were the boys in the middle, not the youngest ones… though i guess it doesnt really matter that much. I just thought it was funny. But i think that the boys seemed more confused by what was going on, i didnt see any of them look upset, just shocked, and confused. I mean honestly, with that many brothers and sisters, i don’t think one more will make too much of a difference.
17 kids from 19(?) to 6 months, that is almost one kid per year…. how can you be surprised anymore when she announces that she is pregnant again?

18 kids is a lot, each child has no way of getting the attention they deserve from the parents and the world is already overpopulated.

I imagine they will be voting for McCain/Palin in the next election!

Why are people so hateful to the Duggars just because they have a lot of children? You may not agree with or desire their lives, but they are supporting, loving, and raising (soon to be 18) children. And it looks like they are doing a pretty good job. How about some admiration for someone doing a really difficult thing?

In response to Alice [tho she probably wont read this]:

That was rude and uncalled for. She happens to love kids and is helping populate the world. I guarantee that they are all smart instead of some idiot. That is why we have Bush. At least they know how to talk like they are smart. If you even know about them you would know they don’t need welfare because the dad is a former Arkansas state legislator in the HoR.

km – “a beer and a nudie mag” – that’s priceless! thanks for the afternoon laugh!

BBBGMOM commented on Jan 01 70 at 12:00 am

Okay, I know this is kinda mean, but I’ve seen several of these TLC gigantic family shows and what always strikes me is how dorky the kids are (well, not the Jon and Kate kids, they’re precocious). Seriously, though, this one family had like 12 boys and 1 girl, and some of the boys were in their 20s and still living at home–being incredibly dorky. Man, I just wanted to give these older kids a beer and a nudie magazine.

I remember when she announced her latest pregnancy on one of the morning talk shows. She was announcing it as a surprise, not just to the public, but to her children as well. The look on one of the youngest boys’ face was heartbreaking.

I can’t imagine saving that kind of news for a television appearance, instead of telling my children privately first. Shows where her judgment and priorities lie.

Sad.

Someone should tell these people that there are easier ways to get on television. Running for Vice President, for example.

brettsinger commented on Jan 01 70 at 12:00 am

J – funny you should ask. When I read about them for the first time, that was my thought, too. By the way, my guess is NO. I’ve only had four children and my bladder control ain’t what it used to be.

Anonymous commented on Jan 01 70 at 12:00 am

I really am curious – do you think she has any bladder control?

Anonymous commented on Jan 01 70 at 12:00 am

I guess it keeps them off welfare to whore out their kids and her uterus. They make me sick.
