Things Fall Apart: 96,000 Cribs Recalled
One crib manufacturer is having a very bad year. A recall of 96,000 of their wooden cribs has just been issued. This is their third, yes third, recall in the past 12 months. Last June 320,000 cribs were recalled and in January 56,450 of the units were deemed unsafe. Me thinks this company is in the wrong business.
Seven of the wooden cribs by Jardine Enterprises (Taipei, Taiwan) were recalled due to the possibility that slats can break and create a dangerous gap which could trap and potentially strangle a small child. The Consumer Product Safety Commission had received 31 reports of slat breakage with two reports of kids getting trapped. These models were sold from 2005 to April 2009 at Toys “R” Us, Babies “R” Us, KidsWorld and Geoffrey stores.
