Why Babies are Better than You (and Me)

Posted by on June 10th, 2007 at 7:09 am

cute babiesI have known for a long time that babies were more flexible than adults, but did you know that they actually have more bones than us? This is news to me. I don’t know maybe everyone else knew this already but I had trouble paying attention in biology class without getting completely grossed out.

Seriously, according to this article they babies are born with 74 more bones than an adult has. The cartilage that separates these extra bones later turns into bone itself.

Guess why else babies are better: they learn faster, crying gives them stronger lungs, they have more taste buds and they smell better.

Okay, I made up that last one, but you should read the whole article. It’s pretty interesting. It might also make you wish you had taken a foreign language in elementary school. No wonder my kids absorb all of the Spanish they see on Dora the Explorer. See? TV isn’t all bad.
