10 Things I Miss Most About My Daughters When We are Apart

Over the past two weeks, Casey has been in California and Texas. When I’m not at work, I’ve spent a day here or there with Addie and Vivi. Instead of leaving me the stress of taking on a full time job and full time parent, Casey made arrangements so that Vivi and Addie spent most of their time at friends’ houses.

I also spent a week last month in Mexico away from my girls. Over the past month, I’ve missed nearly 2.5 weeks of their lives. When Addie and Vivi are away, there are some things that I miss more than others. For instance, I miss hugs far more than I miss changing poopy diapers, and I miss being called “daddd-ee-y” by Vivi more than I miss picking up the smashed tomatoes off the floor under Vivi’s seat.

Here is a list of 10 things that I miss most when I am away from my daughters:

  • Sister Time 1 of 10
    Sister Time
I miss hearing Addie and Vivi play together. Despite the wide age gap, those two love to play together.
  • Play Ball 2 of 10
    Play Ball
Almost every night I lay on the floor and I throw a ball up in the air over and over again. It's something I did as a kid and it carried over into my adult years. Addie and Vivi will join me and lay on their backs as we all throw balls up towards the ceiling.
  • Crazy Clothes 3 of 10
    Crazy Clothes
Addie and Vivi love to put on crazy clothes. Vivi can constantly be found wearing someone else's boots and Addie loves to create interesting combinations.
  • Hugs 4 of 10
I miss getting random hugs throughout the day from both Addie and Vivi.
  • Night Time 5 of 10
    Night Time
I miss putting my kids to bed at night. Watching a peaceful 8 year old and 2 year old fall asleep reminds me of what is important in life.
  • Horse Play 6 of 10
    Horse Play
Our little family can usually be found in the evening goofing around on the floor. I miss that play time we have together whenever I'm away on a trip or they're off to friends' houses.
  • Goofing Around 7 of 10
    Goofing Around
A few times each week I do something for my girls that gets them laughing really hard. In this picture I put on Vivi's jammies because she didn't want to. Those are times I look forward to when our family is reunited.
  • Gymnastics Time 8 of 10
    Gymnastics Time
Addie sometimes just breaks out and starts doing cartwheels. Because Vivi likes to do what Addie does, Vivi will break out her headstand. Those instances are pretty common and that means they are some of the moments I miss most when I'm gone.
  • Reading Time 9 of 10
    Reading Time
Whether it is Addie reading to Vivi or me reading to Vivi, I miss watching how interested Vivi is in being read to.
  • Welcome Home 10 of 10
    Welcome Home
What I miss the most when I am gone or the girls are gone, are those two anxiously waiting for me at the door when I get home from work.
