10 Things I'm Thankful For This Thanksgiving Season

I’ve already written about the things I’m unkthankful for this Thanksgiving season, but considering Thanksgiving is about being thankful, it’s necessary that I be thankful for things too.  A simple list of things I’m thankful for won’t do justice for what I’m actually thankful for because I’m thankful for thousands of things in my life.  When I look around at the less fortunate and the struggles they have to deal with it makes me pause and rethink my rather trivial complaints that pop in my life.  Is a Denver Broncos’ loss in overtime really something to be sad about when someone down the road just discovered his/her child has cancer? Or even when that person down the road discovers his/her child is being bullied in school?

I live a pretty cushy life with all things considered, and I’m definitely thankful for that cushiness. As Thanksgiving this year has come closer and closer, certain things I’m thankful for have popped into my mind more than others.

Here are the 10 of the things I’m thankful for this Thanksgiving Season:

  • For Living in Indiana 2 of 11

For the first three years I lived here in Indiana, I wanted to leave. Now that I've been here for another four years, I love this place and can't imagine living anywhere else and I'm thankful that I finally developed a love for the place where I live.

  • My 2 Full-Time Jobs 3 of 11
    Fundamentals of Property Law Casebook

I'm thankful that the two full-time jobs I held at the same time back in the early days of my marriage convinced me of the value of an education.  Working two jobs just to survive was no way of living.  Working those two jobs convinced me that I needed to make the necessary steps in school so I could have a career that would allow me to spend time with my family.

  • Vivi’s Recent ER Visit 4 of 11

I'm thankful that Vivi's recent emergency room visit wasn't as bad as we had feared it would be. The little kid didn't even make a single whimper when the doctor came into the room to fix her arm.

  • My Sister 5 of 11

I'm thankful that my youngest sister will be visiting us for Christmas this year, because I don't get to see her enough.

  • Second Chance 6 of 11

I'm thankful that Casey and I decided to give our marriage a second chance, and that the years since have been fantastic.

  • Christmas 7 of 11

I'm thankful that Christmas comes so quickly after Thanksgiving, because it's my favorite time of the year and it reminds me of the good times I've spent with my family.

  • Christopher Nolan 8 of 11

I'm thankful that Christopher Nolan decided to make a career out of the movie business. He has provided me with hours of entertainment. Where would the Batman series be without Christopher Nolan? Our last memory of Batman would be a terribly out of place George Clooney wearing a Batman suit complete with its own rubber nipples.

  • Addie’s Emotions 9 of 11

I'm thankful that Addie was born with the ability to feel her emotions so deeply. This child of mine is special in how she cares about other people and it is fascinating to see her experience those emotions.

  • Stability 10 of 11

I had a client recently tell me that she envied my position in life, and not because I was a lawyer, but because I had a young family and my life is stable.  I have been fortunate enough in my life to get to a point where I can worry about raising my family and not much else.

  • The Vivster 11 of 11

I'm thankful that the Vivster came along to give me a second chance at this parenting thing. I missed much of Addie's toddler years thanks to school, but Vivi is giving me the opportunity to experience what I missed out on.
