I recently had the privilege of attending the premiere performance of Disneyland’s newest show “Mickey and the Magical Map” in the revamped Fantasyland Theatre, and it was wonderful.
The “Mickey” in the title is Mickey Mouse, by the way. In case you were wondering.
The live production joins two other new shows that just opened in the freshly unveiled Royal Theatre in Fantasy Faire (there’s a lot of new stuff going on at Disneyland this summer). All three shows are a lot of fun.
Disneyland is expecting big things for “Mickey and the Magical Map” and deservedly so—the combination of technology and classic Disney storytelling is an inspiring one, and if the reaction on opening night is any indication, it is going to be a hit.
But why take my word for it when you can take my word for it? What the what?
Here is my interview with Disney’s Creative Entertainment Executive Producer Doug McIntyre who was kind enough to give me a few moments of his time on a busy, long night. He was also kind enough not to flinch when I couldn’t remember his entire title (to be fair, it’s pretty wordy) or when I made up my own name for “Mickey and the Magical Map.” Hey, I’m talent, and Mr. McIntyre knows how difficult we can be!
Thanks again, Doug! It was a pleasure, and I think you and your team should be very proud!
