Babble Best Picks: Strollers

One of the biggest purchases for your baby is the stroller, riddled with safety, style, and status issues - as well as affordability, of course, considering some strollers climb above the $1,000 mark. The choices and questions are seemingly endless: How do you accommodate your newborn without wasting money on a short-lived purchase? What are the features you absolutely need? Are luxury strollers really worth it? Can you find a good stroller in the $100 range?

To make your search easier, Babble assembled and test-drove over 30 of the newest strollers - from lightweight umbrella strollers to all-terrain joggers - to find the best of the best for every budget, geographic location, and age group. Did we miss one? Nominate your favorite stroller here.

Best Strollers: BOB Revolution

What differentiates a jogging stroller from a regular one is the stable front wheel that keeps the stroller steady. But unfortunately, it’s not great for maneuverable turns and tight spaces. The good thing about today’s jogging strollers is that many can be put in swivel-wheel mode – like this BOB Revolution – based on what you’re doing. Out shopping? Flip the lever for a front wheel that twists and turns. Going for a jog? Flip the lever back for more stability.

The BOB Revolution performed best in both modes. It rides smooth and effortlessly – perfect for any type of activity – and is solid and stable for jogging. (It also seems to be the most comfortable for a little rider.) The large wheels handle rough terrain better than any other stroller we tested, making it ideal for both urban and rural environments, and the breakdown is one of the easiest we found for such a large all-terrain stroller. Don’t get us wrong – this isn’t a lightweight stroller by any means, but at less than 25 pounds, it’s certainly manageable. (Although you may want a lighter umbrella stroller for daily lugging in and out of your trunk.) Our only complaints: We wish the BOB Revolution had a cup holder for our water while taking jogs as well as an automatic lock when folded.

10/14 Note: Nearly half a million BOB strollers were recently recalled – the models manufactured between November 1998 and November 2010.
