The Top 10 Most Awesomely Almost-Off-The Wall Dad Gifts of the Year

By mikeadamick |

It’s getting down to crunch time, people — that moment when the most wonderful time of the year turns in to the most frantic and you begin to think, “Jesus, I don’t really know him at all!”

So what to give the dad in your life, what to give? It’s the eternal question: Do I stick with a tie again, that age-old token of familiarity and boredom? Or do I throw caution to the wind and wrap up the biggest steak I can find?

I absolutely love buying presents for my wife, but I know I can be a challenge to buy for.

“I don’t know, books? Jeans?” is what I usually say. I am forever speeding through books and on the hunt for new ones (post about that coming this week), and I am almost constantly in desperate need of new jeans because I rip up all my favorites playing at the park with my daughter. I actually like receiving these things but I know it stumps my wife and other family members when they want to think of something more personal.

So for those trying to find the perfect present for dads this year, here are a couple of my off-the-beaten path favorites that are sure to please while not being tooooo off-the-beaten track. But who are we kidding? At this point, we’re desperate. We’ll wrap anything. Including steak.

Top Ten Gifts for Dads Who are Hard to Buy For

I wasn't kidding. Look, you can go the fancy schmancy online route and order some crazy cut of beef from some crazy heritage farm in Omaha or whatever, or you can purchase a gift certificate to your favorite neighborhood butcher and let your dad choose the dinner night. I got this one year and loved it. Totally off the wall but also kind of awesome.
