There were many, and I mean MANY, highlights from this year’s D23, the annual convention honoring all things Disney. Thousands of fans descended upon the convention center in Anaheim, CA to meet Disney stars, buy Disney merch, chat with fellow Disney fans, and experience some very real Disney magic from being graced with a visit from Angelina Jolie to being the first to hear about a brand new Disney epic.

Angelina Jolie Was in the House! 2 of 11
Angelina Jolie was there! Yes, the most A-list of all A-listers hit the D23 scene to promote, very much ahead of schedule, the upcoming Disney film Maleficent. Dressed all in black, Angelina talked about the project and why she was drawn to this infamous character. "Since I was a little girl, Maleficent was always my favorite. I was terrified of her, but I was always drawn to her," she told the crowd.
Tom Hiddleston Is Going to Be a Pirate! 3 of 11
Tom Hiddleston can't seem to escape the bad guy roles! This phenomenal British actor was at D23 on double duty to promote Marvel's Thor, where he reprises his role as Loki, but also he was there to announce a new project — The Pirate Fairy.
In this new film, which is coming out in Spring 2014, Tom Hiddleston plays a young Captain Hook alongside Mad Men star Christina Hendricks, a new fairy in the Disney Fairies realm. "We start to bridge Tink's world of Pixie Hollow and her world of Peter Pan," Peggy Holmes, the director, told the D23 crowd.
Torrowland! 4 of 11
In an interesting presentation, Tomorrowland director and co-writer Brad Bird and co-writer Damon Lindelof brought on stage a "dusty old box," which was, in their description, the inspiration for the George Clooney movie. The box included various items, such as ride blueprints and a can of mysterious film.
Yes, the project is still shrouded in mystery.
Richard Sherman Was There! 5 of 11
Richard Sherman, of the famous Sherman Brothers, wasn't just there, he joined Alan Menkin on stage and the two did a concert featuring the hits they wrote for Disney. Pretty epic. Above is a photo of Richard Sherman with Jason Schwartzman and B.J. Novak, who play the Sherman Brothers in Disney's upcoming feature Saving Mr. Banks.
Marvel 6 of 11
Marvel had lots to share: showing clips, talking about projects, and wowing the crowd with Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy. And although the clips were well received, the stars who came to promote the films stole the show. Besides the before mentioned Tom Hiddleston appearance, Natalie Portman, Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie and Anthony Hopkins came to D23, too.
Cinderella 7 of 11
We haven't gotten much of a peek at what is happening with Disney's live action version of Cinderella, but at D23, we got more details with a teaser in the form of a video interview with director Kenneth Branagh, various pieces of the film's art and Lily James' — who plays Cinderella — screen test. But the image we see above gives us a good idea of what to expect! I, for one, am super excited!
Infinity 8 of 11
Ty Burrell 9 of 11
Ty Burrell drove out in this little car! Yeah, pretty awesome. He was behind the wheel for Muppets: Most Wanted. Seriously, that car is far more Muppet-sized than human-sized.
Zootopia 10 of 11
The good folks at Disney talked about many of their animated features that are deep in production or projects that we already know about, like Disney's Frozen, Pixar's The Good Dinosaur, Inside Out, and Finding Dory. But there was one brand new project that they unveiled at D23, a film called Zootopia.
Zootopia is, as Variety states, "designed as a buddy action comedy set in an animal world where humans never existed. The design of the locations are all based on how an animal might have produced them. Director Byron Howard wanted to design "an animal civilization that's incredibly real, incredibly original and distinctly animal."
More Star Wars Rides? 11 of 11
Disney Parks did not make any official announcement, but there are rumors that there could be another Star Wars-themed ride in the works. At the Imagineer's "open house," a recreation of the their offices, there were hints of a Star Wars ride in the works under the code name of "Orange Harvest." Check out Inside the Magic's MANY photos of the clues right here. This goes along with what OC Weekly recently reported, where they speculate that the Captain EO film will be closed and replaced with a 3D Star Wars film and than a "Star Wars speeder bike coaster on the old PeopleMover tracks is planned."
