11 Lessons We Can Learn from the Disney PrincessesDisney Sisters
To some, being a Disney princess may seem like it’s all about fancy dresses, handsome princes, and a lot of long, flowing hair. But if you look a little deeper, you’ll see there is so much more to it. Young girls (and not-so-young girls) all over the world look up to these heroines, and for good reason — they are amazing and complex characters.
You may be surprised to know how much we could actually learn from these princesses. They’re all about having the courage to stand up for what you believe in, keeping the faith in times of despair, trusting yourself when those around you have doubts, and following your heart. Empowering stuff, right? In each Disney movie starring these incredible young women, each one of them must overcome great obstacles. They persevere against all odds and learn a valuable lesson about themselves in the process — all while having a cheerful disposition. Now THAT is something to admire.
We have listed some of our very favorite quotes from Disney princesses, as well as what we can learn from these very special ladies. Now tell us, do you have a favorite Disney princess quote? What life lessons have you learned from them?
11 Things We Can Learn from the Disney Princesses 1 of 12
Cinderella: Never Give up on Your Dreams 2 of 12
Believe in yourself and never give up on your dreams. It can be easy to write off our dreams, especially when they seem too wonderful to ever come true. But Cinderella shows us that unwavering hope (and a little fairy dust) goes a long way.
Merida: Carve Your Own Destiny 3 of 12
We all come from different places and have different expectations from our families growing up. Sometimes, however, what matters most is what we want to make of our own lives. Merida learns this the hard way, but ultimately carves out her destiny for herself.
Tiana: Work Hard to Achieve 4 of 12
Princess Tiana has taught us to "dig a little deeper" and look within ourselves. Through hard work, drive, and determination, you can make your own dreams come true. She's a wonderful role model for girls, demonstrating that they don't have to sit around and wait for Prince Charming to rescue them.
Rapunzel: Stay True to Your Word 5 of 12
Any good relationship, romantic or otherwise, needs a solid foundation of trust in order to last. Rapunzel gives Flynn her word, and she sticks to her promise no matter what obstacles arise along the way.
Belle: Embrace Adventure and Don’t Judge a Book by Its Cover 6 of 12
Ever heard that beauty is in the eye of the beholder? The girl who didn't quite fit in taught us how to not judge a book (pun intended) by its cover. You can find beauty in things that you never imagined, and Belle's taste for adventure leads her to do so. If you take a closer look and use your heart as your guide, you can't go wrong. Thanks to Belle for reminding us of that!
Pocahontas: Follow Your Heart 7 of 12
Pocahontas is another princess that chose to follow her heart instead of doing what was expected of her (I think we are beginning to see a pattern here with these girls ...). Her intuition and inner voice were stronger than what everyone around her was saying. What path are your dreams leading you down? Are you going to follow?
Ariel: Don’t Let Anything Stand in Your Way 8 of 12
This girl knew what she wanted, and that was to be where the people are. Ariel would not let anything stand in her way of getting the life that she truly desired (not even a pair of legs — HA!). This mermaid had to go against her father, the King of the Sea, to follow her destiny. With the help of some very special friends, this young princess was willing to risk losing her most prized possession: her voice. We could all learn something from faith like that.
Mulan: Girls Are Unstoppable 9 of 12
Anything boys can do, girls can do, too! This warrior princess is one of the strongest we've ever known. She risked her own life to protect her father from having to go to war (brave, much?). She believed in equal rights, and she knew in her heart that a woman could be just as effective in battle as a man. Boy, was she right! This fierce girl led her army to victory and won the heart of her beau, as well. She continues to inspire young girls to fight for what they believe in.
Aurora: Be Patient and Persistent 10 of 12
Dream a little dream. And if it doesn't come true the first time, try again! This is a great motto to follow for all things in life — if you don't succeed, try, try again.
Jasmine: Speak Your Mind 11 of 12
Women are more than a prize to be won, and Princess Jasmine was not afraid to speak her mind about it. She refuses to be tied down to the old traditions that she feels are barbaric and no longer applicable to her. She wants to marry only for love. Princess Jasmine is free-spirited, confident, and ready to discover the wonders outside the confines of her palace walls.
Snow White: Don’t Forget to Look on the Bright Side 12 of 12
Snow White is a kind and gentle princess, with skin white as snow. She sees the beauty in all things and seems to look at the world through rose-colored glasses. If we could all learn to sing our troubles away, what a wonderful (musical) world this would be. Fa-la-la ... we feel better already!
