5 Most Romantic Places at Walt Disney WorldAmy Lupold Bair
Romantic may not be the word that comes to mind when you think of Walt Disney World. Sure, there are the Disney Fairy Tale Weddings, and we certainly all know someone who went to the happiest place on earth for their honeymoon. But we can also all picture standing in line for attractions with kids melting down around us, little ones splashing us in the pool, screaming children seated next to us at dinner. The people who think only of tired children and cranky parents thought I was crazy when I shared in the summer of 2011, that my husband and I would be celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary with a trip to Walt Disney World.
“Don’t you go there enough with your family?”
“How can you go to Walt Disney World and not take the kids?!”
“What are you going to do!?!”
The trick to enjoying the romantic side of Walt Disney World is finding the most romantic places in Disney Parks and Resorts. Whether you’re taking a trip with your love, planning a parents’ night out while on vacation, or just stealing a kiss when the kids aren’t looking, here is your guide to the 5 Most Romantic Places at Walt Disney World.
5 Most Romantic Places at Walt Disney World 1 of 6
California Grill 2 of 6
One of the main goals of our anniversary trip to Walt Disney World Resort was to make each meal a magical feast. While I enjoyed every delicious bite all weekend long, our dinner at California Grill was my absolute favorite. When we arrived to check in for our reservation, we were immediately seated at a table next to a window overlooking the Seven Seas Lagoon as the sun went down. Later in the evening we were able to return to the restaurant, which is located on the roof of Disney's Contemporary Resort, to watch the fireworks over Magic Kingdom from the rooftop deck. It was an absolutely magical evening I will never forget.
Extra Magic Hours 3 of 6
Guests of Disney Resort properties have access to Extra Magic Hours, extra hours that the parks are open either before or after regular park hours. This additional park time is typically early in the morning or late into the night and is generally less crowded than scheduled park hours, especially if you are there right at the beginning or end of the time window. There is something romantic and peaceful about walking through a nearly empty park, riding your favorite attractions in the dark, or enjoying an ice cream cone by the carousel at one in the morning.
IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth at EPCOT’s UK Pavilion 4 of 6
Just about any fireworks display could be considered romantic, and no one does fireworks like Disney. While there are many locations I would recommend for viewing EPCOT's nightly extravaganza, IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth, the most romantic viewing location is in the UK Pavilion. Head over there earlier in the evening and wander around the quaint streets of England while you enjoy a pint from the Rose and Crown pub and listen to live music from British Revolution. Then find a cozy spot on a bench beneath the trees to watch one of the best shows at Walt Disney World.
Spaceship Earth 5 of 6
Spaceship Earth at EPCOT is one of those often-overlooked attractions. Everyone sees the geodesic dome, of course, but most people keep walking right past it, not realizing exactly what's inside. My children happen to love this attraction, so I've spent many Disney afternoons traveling through time. Our romantic trick is to have the kids ride in the front of our time-traveling vehicle while we ride in the back, enjoying 16 minutes of air-conditioned relaxation, holding hands without annoyed eye rolls from our kids. There's even a moment at the top of the dome when you travel through near darkness with only the flickering dim light from the stars surrounding you that is the perfect time to steal a kiss. Or two. Or several.
Beach and Yacht Club Resorts 6 of 6
There are many beautiful Walt Disney World Resort properties, but I believe the most romantic are Disney's Beach Club and Yacht Club Resorts. Situated on Crescent Lake, these two connected properties have old New England charm with modern luxuries such as a full service spa and the Beachside Water Recreation Area. Have dinner in the Yachtsman Steakhouse then stroll along the boardwalk, where you'll find street performances as well as great locations to grab dessert or an after-dinner drink.
