Earlier this summer, Disney released a new animated superhero series called Marvel’s Avengers Assemble, and they have been assembling on our television set ever since. The kids love it, and frankly my wife and I do, too! We watch it together as part of the “Marvel Universe” show block on Disney XD. Technically, the block is more of a triangle as Marvel’s Avenger’s Assemble is joined by Ultimate Spider-Man and the forthcoming Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H., but enough geometry.
The current cast of heroes includes Iron Man (voiced by Adrian Pasdar), Captain America (Roger Craig Smith), Hulk (Fred Tatasciore), Thor (Travis Willingham), The Falcon (Bumper Robinson), Black Widow (Laura Bailey), and Hawkeye (Troy Baker), who all answer the call of justice in really fancy outfits (give or take a pair of old, purple pants). Fighting evil is very fashionable.
The show follows the team of heroes as they battle a group of super-villains lead by the Red Skull called the Cabal that are bent on all of the things that bend super-villains—power mostly.
In a related note, I recently covered the upcoming Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel special event, which I will share next week, and had the opportunity to spend time with Pasdar, Tatasciore, and Willingham. The highlight of which came as Fred Tatasciore, in character as Hulk, answered my 7-year-old’s question on smashing only to have said 7-year-old smash his plastic cup of water in the general direction of Willingham. Superhero shenanigans!
It was a great ice-breaker. Literally.
