Movie goers who had tickets to the closing night festivities at the 57th BFI London Film Festival had quite a delicious spoonful of sugar to gulp down. They were the lucky ones who got to see the world premiere of Disney’s Saving Mr. Banks. Here in the states, we all have to wait until December 20th, but it is the kind of film that will be worth the wait, especially considering the cast. The film stars Tom Hanks as Walt Disney and Emma Thompson as P.L. Travers, the woman who wrote the classic Mary Poppins.
The film tells the tale of Walt Disney trying to convince P.L. Travers let him make a film out of her beloved children’s book, but “Walt comes up against a curmudgeonly, uncompromising writer who has absolutely no intention of letting her beloved magical nanny get mauled by the Hollywood machine.” Walt Disney, Mary Poppins, Tom Hanks, Emma Thompson — it’s a match made in cinematic heaven.
And while we here in the US have to be patient for the Christmas week release, we can at least peek at the stars working the red carpet at the London premiere. Check them out here:
