We’ve seen Tom Hanks on the red carpet sporting a very iconic mustache, but now we finally get to see the Academy Award winning actor in character as the one and only Walt Disney.
In the first official still released by Walt Disney Pictures for their upcoming feature Saving Mr. Banks, we see a happy, waving Walt alongside P.L. Travers (played by Emma Thompson) walking down Disneyland’s Main Street.
The film – which opens on December 25th – tells the story of Walt’s quest to secure the film rights for author P.L. Travers’ masterpiece Mary Poppins.
This is the first time that Walt Disney has been fictionally played on the big screen and comes with added pressure in played one of the most beloved icons in American entertainment.
“I don’t want to piss anybody off. I want to be accurate, more than anything else,” Tom Hanks told E! “John Lee Hancock is the director, and it’s really the story of Emma Thompson more than it’s about me, so, you know, I don’t want to screw up.” But it sounds like things went smoothly with Hanks saying, “They haven’t fired me, so so far so good!”
