“Two people and a secret, the beginning of all conspiracies,” Benedict Cumberbatch (as Julian Assange) says in the new trailer for DreamWorks’ The Fifth Estate. It sounds simple enough but the WikiLeaks saga is one of the most complex, wide-reaching, and notorious situations that has ever hit the internet or our government’s intelligence organizations.
The film, “reveals the quest to expose the deceptions and corruptions of power that turned an Internet upstart into the 21st century’s most fiercely debated organization.” But one thing that is not up for debate, this film has all the makings of greatness. It has a very intriguing and timely topic. It has a style akin to a spy thriller, but is actually based on very real events. And it has an epic cast featuring not just Benedict Cumberbatch as Julian Assange and Daniel Domscheit-Berg as Daniel Brühl, but also Anthony Mackie, David Thewlis, Alicia Vikander, Peter Capaldi, Carice van Houten, Dan Stevens, with Stanley Tucci and Laura Linney.
