The Stars Come Out for Saving Mr. Banks (Photos)

I don’t know about you, but I’m shocked that Mary Poppins is celebrating it’s 50th anniversary this year. Yes FIFTY years, but I guess that’s why the film is considered a “timeless” family classic. And now another “classic” in being born from P.L. Travers’ tale of a magical nanny — the film Saving Mr. Banks.

The film stars Emma Thompson as the curmudgeonly author and Tom Hanks as the one and only Walt Disney and tells the tale of how Walt Disney woos Travers and the struggles he was met with when trying to make the film, a film that turned out to be a HUGE success. The film also delves deeply into Travers’ background and what inspired Mary Poppins.

In celebration of the film and Mary Poppins, the stars came out to the premiere of Saving Mr. Banks at the place where the film was born — the Walt Disney Studios. The film’s stars, like Emma Thompson and Tom Hanks, were in attendance, as well as the stars of Mary Poppins, like Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke.
