The gods of cinematic glory smiled down on the sons of Asgard at the red carpet premiere of Thor: The Dark World at Hollywood’s El Capitan Theatre earlier this week. It wasn’t just the returning cast that cemented its victory, but also the Marvel-ous (heh) attention to detail that made it a must-see.
I was on hand to take in this latest chapter of extraterrestrial Viking demigod awesome, and things picked up right where they left off. The movie gets started with Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and his massive Mjolnir working alongside Asgardian forces to bring peace to the nine realms after they were thrown into warring chaos following the destruction of the Bifröst in Thor, and Loki’s deliciously wicked invasion of New York in The Avengers.
Its been two years since astro-physicist Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) has seen Thor, and in her efforts to reunite with the blonde behemoth, she makes an accidental discovery that sets off a series of action-packed events that had the entire theater gasping out loud. Also, cheering.
And while I won’t spoil anything you haven’t already seen in the trailers, I will semi-answer the most burning questions floating around the internets. But not really.
If nothing else, it’ll make you want to see this fantastic hybrid of science fiction and fantasy even more.
