Time-Traveling to Victorian London with the Great Dickens Christmas Fair

Dickens FairTime machines may not be a reality, but you can feel like you’ve gone back in time with a visit to the Great Dickens Christmas Fair and Victorian Holiday Party — a San Francisco tradition for 35 years.

I’ve been attending this over-the-top ode to Charles Dickens-era London, the characters he created, and Victorian entertainment, style, games, and food since I was a kid, and now I’m taking my own child to visit this long-gone era. This was my daughter’s third visit to the Great Dickens Christmas Fair, and each year we immerse ourselves in crafts such as decorating a fairy house, watching old-timey entertainments, seeing Dickens characters from Oliver Twist to Tiny Tim strolling the streets, and of course searching for Father Christmas. It really is a magical and completely unique way to celebrate the season and to get into the holiday spirit.
