Lion King, Mary Poppins, Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Newsies; Disney has proved that they don’t just dominate on screen but also on the stage. And now another Disney classic is headed to the Broadway, the newly released Frozen.
On Monday Bob Iger – the president of Walt Disney – confirmed that they are planning on developing the hugely successful animated hit into a stage production. But it won’t be showing up too soon, as of now there is no time line. “We’re not demanding speed,” Iger said. “We’re demanding excellence.”
Frozen has all the elements to be a smash success on the “great white way,” from catchy tunes to compelling characters to a wonderful and rich story. And Frozen is, already, ridiculously successful. It’s already grossed about $669 million so far (and it hasn’t even opened in China or Japan yet). And the soundtrack is a chart topper, coming in at as the number one album on both Amazon and iTunes. So the audience for a stage show based on Frozen is totally there.
Are you looking forward to seeing Frozen on the stage?
