15 Military Names for Babies

With the U.S. Social Security Administration’s release of America’s most popular baby names for 2012 last week, we discovered pop culture dictated the fastest-rising name for girls. The rising star in boy names was major — no, literally Major. Clearly, Americans have had the military on their minds when naming their little ones!

From the release from the SSA,

acting commissioner Colvin added, “I have no doubt Major’s rising popularity as a boy’s name is in tribute to the brave members of the U.S. military, and maybe we’ll see more boys named General in the future.” You also might trace Major’s increase in popularity to a cable TV show. “Home by Novogratz” is a popular home-design show featuring Major Novogratz, the youngest son of designers Robert and Cortney.

OK, FINE, we love military AND pop culture.

I’ve gathered a handful of great military names for babies that have pop-culture cross-over appeal.

I adore the idea of the name March for a little girl. This is probably because I am a total Louisa May Alcott nerd. The idea that it could also be a military tribute name is lovely.
