Award Winning Author Inspires Great Movies

Congratulations to beloved YA author, Katherine Patterson!

She’s taking home the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award for her substantial and lasting contribution to children’s literature. Included in her body of work are your childhood favorites Jacob Have I Loved, The Great Gilly Hopkins, and Bridge to Terabithia.

Known for not dumbing it down for kids, Paterson’s books have endured. In fact, The Great Gilly Hopkins will be made into a movie staring Kathy Bates and Danny Glover. Katherine Patterson’s son David is writing the screenplay.  He also adapted Bridge to Terabithia for the big screen. It was one of the more successful book-to-movie transformations and it starred Hunger Games heartthrob Josh Hutcherson.

Josh Hutcherson seems to be making a career out of books-to-movie franchises. If you’ve got a tween who is Team Peeta, it might be fun to introduce them to the Josh Hutherson book-to-movie club.

Check out the books that inspired some of Josh Hutcherson’s best movies. It’s kind of weird that he’s been in so many!
