After Divorce Katy Perry Says She Wondered "Should I Continue Living?"

Katy Perry attends the iHeartRadio Music Festival at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las VegasIt’s a pretty strong, and surprising statement coming from the girl power singer whose current single is entitled “Roar.”

But in an interview with Billboard magazine, Katy goes back to the very dark place she found herself in after she and Russell Brand divorced.

The painful emotions of that time are what inspired her song “By the Grace of God.” The track is part of her new album Prism, which drops on October 22nd.

“That song is evident of how tough it really was at a certain point,” she says. “I asked myself, ‘Do I want to endure? Should I continue living?’ All the songs are real-life moments. I can only write autobiographically. I put all the evidence in the music. I tell my fans if they want to know the real truth about stuff, just listen to the songs.”

Fast forward two years, and Katy is clearly in a very different place. She and John Mayer seem to be going strong. In the same interview, she gushes about his crossword puzzle prowess and calls him a genius.

“I always tell him, ‘Darling, you know I’m going to have to give your mind to science after you’ve passed,” she says, “because we’re going to have to understand how all these sparks work.'”
