Oscar® Red Carpet Looks Judged by an 8-Year-Old

My daughter had one big reason for wanting to watch the 2014 Academy Awards®; she wanted to see Idina Menzel (or Adele Dazeem if you prefer) perform “Let it Go” from Frozen. But Idina’s performance was the last of the night, forcing countless children across the nation to stay up past their bedtime to see their favorite song ever performed live. In our home, to pass the time until the BIG moment, I had my Frozen-loving 8-year-old give her opinions on what the rest of the stars were wearing, giving her unique take on the Oscar® red carpet fashions.

Check out what she said right here:

What did she think of the dresses at this year's Oscars®?

  • Cate Blanchett 2 of 19

"It looks like she got caught in a storm and got covered by ice and snow flakes."

  • Charlize Theron 3 of 19

"It's too dark feeling, and how is it staying up? It looks funny, like the top was glued on."

  • Amy Adams 4 of 19
86th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

"It's so simple! Which I think is really cool. It doesn't look like it's made of fabric; it looks really hard. It is a serious dress."

  • Penelope Cruz 5 of 19
86th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

"This is so pretty, and it's in my favorite color: a really pretty light pink. And I like that she wore a black belt — that makes it cool. But it kinda looks like the belt is holding the dress together, and if you untied it, she would open like a present."

  • Camila Alves 6 of 19
86th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

"This one looks so much like the last pink dress but with a blankie over her shoulder. But she should have worn a belt, too."

  • Elsa Pataky 7 of 19

"She looks like a pregnant mermaid covered in seaweed."

  • Jennifer Garner 8 of 19

"She needs to go dancing in this dress because it moves so much! It looks like a fancy chandelier."

  • Jennifer Lawrence 9 of 19

"This is the reddest red ever. But it's too plain and too red."

  • Angelina Jolie 10 of 19
86th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

"It looks like she is covered in icicles. She looks really cold."

  • Julia Roberts 11 of 19

"This dress looks sad. And that lace looks like it was just pasted on there at the last minute."

  • Kate Hudson 12 of 19

"She looks like a futuristic robot bird."

  • Kerry Washington 13 of 19

"I like it, but she looks like a grape candy."

  • Kristen Bell 14 of 19

"It looks like two different dresses — like the top is all made of beads and the bottom was made of crumpled paper. But I like it. She looks like a winter fairy — she just needs wings."

  • Lupita Nyong’o 15 of 19
86th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

"I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. She looks like Cinderella! She really looks like a princess. I wonder if she is wearing glass slippers?"

  • Meryl Streep 16 of 19
86th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

"I like the black and white together, but the top is falling down. She looks nice though; she just needs to fix her top."

  • Naomi Watts 17 of 19
86th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

"I love this one! She looks just like Elsa*!"

    *Elsa from Frozen, of course!

  • Sandra Bullock 18 of 19
86th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

"This is such a "gown" — like a "gown gown." Yeah, it's pretty but kinda boring."

  • Anne Hathaway 19 of 19
86th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

"Um, she looks like a fish that would have fangs."
