Britney Spears Writes a Note to Her FansDresden Shumaker
In a handwritten note to her fans, Britney Spears reveals she is just a few days away from finishing her next album. She begins, “We’re all so used to getting our thoughts out in 140 characters, but sometimes it’s nice to take time to sit down and write something a little longer and more personal.” She continues on to say, “I poured my heart and soul into this album and it’s been an incredible journey. I’ve learned a lot about myself, and as I am finishing, I am reminded of the incredible foundation that has supported me for the last 15 years. Thank you all for continuing to follow me on this journey and for allowing me to do what I love to do. I can’t believe this is my eighth studio album and I know I keep telling you that it is my most personal record yet, but its true and I’m really proud of that.”
With this note, Britney also released the cover art for her album, set to release on December 3rd. Britney ended her note by saying, “I am a performer. I am a Mom. I am funny. I am your friend! I am Britney Jean.” The title of her new album will be Britney Jean. The Huffington Post was quick to remark how familiar this album cover looked. Where was it we just saw an album with words spelled out in neon? Oh, right. Miley Cyrus recently spelled Bangerz on her latest album.
Britney and Miley are actually friends. In a recent interview, Spears shared, “My mom and her mom know each other. She’s a girl’s girl and she gets the whole Southern thing.” The admiration goes both ways. Miley has said of Britney, “The way that I am about Britney, that’s the way a lot of people are about me. She was my first record. I was a lot of people’s first album. First idol. I’ll be a diehard fan for Britney, always.” It doesn’t hurt that the pop stars have the same manager, Larry Rudolph.
Britney just released a video for her latest single, “Get to Work,” from the Britney Jean album. She has asked all of her fans to literally “get to work!” According to her Tumblr, “she wants to hear about some of your personal “Get to Work” stories. These can be stories about volunteering at a soup kitchen, collecting donations for victims of natural disaster, hitting the gym to get healthy, and more!” Britney plans on tweeting the most memorable submissions.
I think it is great Britney wants to give her fans a nudge to share their volunteer stories. I feel like it would be a more exciting and special call to action if the campaign felt like more than an afterthought. I would get a real kick out of one of my music idols jumping into the world of social good, but not if I felt like it was manufactured. Maybe this is just Britney dipping her toe in the waters of change and there are bigger things to come. She did tell us in her note that we should expect some surprises…
